Mid-Island ASBC Parent Support Group Meeting
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
7-9 p.m.
SOS Building, 245 W. Hirst Avenue, ParksvilleTopic: Microboards
We are pleased welcome Jeanette Holder of the Vela Microboard Association to our February meeting.
In British Columbia, family and friends of a person with challenges may form a non-profit society to organize in a customized manner the services and funding required by their loved one. Microboards may be organized around loved ones who live in the community or at home, and are different from Individualized Funding.
More information about microboards is available at http://www.microboard.org
Please email diane_t @ shaw.ca (without the spaces) if you plan to attend so that we may arrange for seating and refreshments.
Hope to see you there.

If you email me at magnolias@telus.net I will be glad to send you some information that will hopefully give you some better insight in order to make a decision.take good care,

February 10, 2007 at 10:16 pm #5268Nicole HarveyMemberHello everyone,
I'm just curious what the general concensus on vaccines being the cause of Autism is. My son was involved in a vaccination study put on by the Fraser Health Authority to determine the safety of immunizations administered either with or without an aluminum phosphate adjuvant. Upon finding out the study results (they did individualized blook tests to see if the immunizations were succesful or not)it was recommended that I have my son re-vaccinated as the results in his case were inconclusive.
I guess I have two questions:
1. What are the general opinions on vaccines causing Autism, and,
2. Is there any other families involved in this study (It took place in 2003 called the MET 15 study)that have children with autism?
Please let me know!
Thanks!

I have worked in a school setting for 15 years with students whom have various needs.
My role is working with students with special needs, learning disabilities, behavioral and social issues.
Creating and modifying programs to suit each individuals needs was a big part of my role as well.
I worked 1 to 1 with groups and circulated within many classrooms.
Apart from the in class help I had the opportunity to council students in need of guidance and empowering them
to help make a difference for themselves.
I strongly believe that working with a good team helps build a bridge to success. In a group home setting I worked with a great group of individuals.
Together as a team we worked on teaching life skills meeting each youths needs. For a few years as an educational tutor I worked closely with parents to make a difference for their children.
Helping them to excel and reach their goals.I would love the opportunity to continue to help make a difference for the youth and young adults here in Richmond.
I am available for one on one work.. Feel free to contact me.Aaron Howe

Aaron.howe@hotmail.comFebruary 9, 2007 at 8:15 pm #5271Dave CollyerMemberHello Victoria based home program ABAers,
We have just finished interviewing and hiring a new "junoir" therapist. We recieved a large number of resumes in the process. As a result I have a small stack of resumes from interested applicants. Most I would describe as enthusiastic, and energetic but "green" in terms of direct experience (but with some related experience and course work from the UVic Psychology program). If anyone is hoping to build team "depth" by adding new members please fell free to contact me. I would be happy to pass on your contact information.
Dave.

I know several families who recommend the pediatric dentist group at Oakridge mall. Their offices are very close to Dr. DeLevie's office but unfortunately I can't remember the name offhand.

North Vancouver or West Vancouver (not too far West) is also okay.
Thanks.
