The Autism Funding in BC website (http://asdfunding.com)has now been up for one month and I thank you all for your kind feedback.
I will slowly be adding to the site as new topics come to mind. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear about them.
One topic I would like to address is independent schools. I have heard some comments for and against them, but I would like to know more about the issue. If you have any stories or tips for me, I would appreciate the input.
Cheers

Well it's that time of year again and Canada Revenue Agency has decided to celebrate by disallowing most of my ABA-related medical expense claims! Once again I am forced to get letters from doctors, etc to show that my son needs ABA, letters from CLBC about funding (or not), etc. On top of that, they've disallowed some claims based on flimsy stuff like the therapists' SIN numbers are not on their invoices, that I don't have an 'official' stamp saying "Paid in Full" on them, and other crap like that.
I tell you, it's enough to make one's head burst! And what makes it worse is that I went through all this last taxation year (2006).
I have spoken to Don Cayo, tax affairs columnist for the Vancouver Sun, and he would like to write a story on this but needs to hear from a few more people. SO if you have a taxation horror story to share, please do it here if you wish, but by all means go post it on his bloghttp://communities.canada.com/vancouversun/blogs/taxingissues/default.aspx
Maybe we can embarrass this government and its behemoth tax bureaucracy enough to stop treating us like criminals!
Sincerely,
David Bridges

November 6, 2008 at 3:52 am #5311Don MichaelMemberHas anyone got any recommendations for a speech pathologist? Somewhere centred around Main/Cambie at 12th or near would be swell. We have a daughter who's a little drooly and has low muscle tone and she could use work on breath control and stamina. Any suggestions at all are welcome; replies to michaelrohaly@gmail.com would be swell.
October 30, 2008 at 4:06 am #5312Super DadParticipantThe National, CBC's flagship nightly newscast hosted by Peter Mansbridge, has proven itself completely worthless to anyone who has any respect for truth.
Here is the piece of garbage they have recently produced:
http://www.cbc.ca/national/blog/special_feature/positively_autistic/
It is important to note that Michelle Dawson is a self-proclaimed "autistic" who has never had a formal diagnosis. A newspaper report has revealed that she has supposedly "self-diagnosed" herself. Much evidence suggests she is an opportunist who is seeking profit and attention by exploiting public ignorance about autism.
Temple Grandin, a real autistic who is NOT against ABA, says:
"The problem is, you talk to parents with a low-functioning kid, who've got a teenager who still goes to the bathroom in his pants and who's biting himself all the time. This guy destroys the house, and he's not typing, no matter what keyboards you make available. His life is miserable."
Why do people like Michelle Dawson never talk about how miserable these children get without treatment? That's because they want the fame and fortune of Temple Grandin but have nothing to contribute, so they resort to any method imaginable, often at the expense of truly disabled children.
