Dear Stephanie (Spence),
My son took all his 3 shots at 1 1/2 years old. Since that evening, he refused to nurse until 2 weeks later. He's so non-verbal until 2.5 years old that I sometimes think he cannot speak at all. Although there is no evidence that vaccinations could cause autism, I hated myself for causing my boy so much agony and shock. He was petrified by the 3 shots [I fought with his dad that we should separate the shots instead of giving him all 3 in a row].
Of course, I lost the battle. Not only that, I also lost my son – he's now so afraid of clinics that it is hell for us each time we need to bring him to any clinics or hospital. We paid our price.
Good luck to you.August 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm #5611Stephanie SpenceMemberoops I forgot, my email is gsspence@shaw.ca
August 4, 2009 at 3:46 pm #5612Stephanie SpenceMemberHi there,
My son who has ASD is due to get his Kindergarten booster of the DPT-P vaccine. I know this is a sensitive issue for many, whether to vaccinate or not. Does anyone have any stories to share ?
I am a bit nervous because of all the debate, is it just the MMR that is contraversial or all vaccines ?
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.thanks,
StephanieJuly 18, 2009 at 3:49 am #5613J.GrahamParticipantI'm posting this for another Parent…. hopefully some of you can help.
Does anyone know where a parent can get respite services for a 6 year old child with autism?
Is there a trustworthy agency one can go through to hire someone to come to the home even for 1 day a week?
The At Home respite funding is not approved.
Any ideas anyone can give me to pass along to this parent who is in dire need of a day off would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Jen

I am thinking to study some courses for BCABA or BCBA (possible future) to get more solid and complete understanding of ABA stuff.
I know UBC offers great courses, but I can only consider on-line programs at this point.I am thinking about Florida Institute of Technology.
http://uc.fit.edu/pdp/programs/aba/
The have 5 courses, the first 3 is for BCABA, combining with later 2 is for BCBA.Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

Without a doubt you should apply for the additional home owners grant.
Many of us have received the grant. It's important to remember when you fill the forms out, that many beancounters in the government don't understand that autism is a disability. Fill out the forms out carefully with that in mind, but keep your answers truthful. Don't give them more information than they ask for.
You can certainly apply for a retroactive grant, but nothing I have seen limits how far back you can go.
Refer to my web page http://asdfunding.com/propertytax.aspx for more information.
Cheers
Milburn

I have a couple of questions about property taxes:
Do you know any family who gets the "Additional Home Owner Grant" because of an autistic child?
If you reserve a large room for therapy of all sorts, including Occupational Therapy, is it a good enough reason for the Additional Home Owner Grant?
If you do qualify, how many years can you claim retroactively?
Thanks in advance.
