Wanted: ABA-trained S.E.A.
(Special Education Assistant)This is an excellent opportunity to work with a fourteen-year old student who has been on an ABA program since 1997. Student is enrolled in and an independent high school in East Vancouver. He is enrolled in regular academic classes, and participates in all school activities. Position is full time. Training will commence immediately, with overlap beginning after spring break in the school. Successful candidate would also work one shift per week on the home ABA team.
We ask for a minimum commitment of one academic year ending June of 2007. Remuneration is commensurate with public school.

Autism is a treatable and possibly reversible neurological condition that affects normal development of social interaction and communication skills.Today with high-quality, intensive, early ABA intervention 48% of autistic children can have an average IQ point increase of 28 points — That's enough to move a child from the mildly retarded to normal intelligence range.
In his presentation Dr. Sallows will describe and demonstrate the treatment approach, predictors for success and residual symptoms of best outcome children as well as cognitive improvements made by all children in the study using Lovaas-ABA.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Glen Sallows, Ph.D. is the Director of both the Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) and the Early Autism Project in Vancouver. He has been working in the field of autism for over 20 years. Both Dr. Sallows an Ms Graupner trained under Dr. Ivar Lovaas at the University of California, Los Angeles in becoming proficient in using techniques known as Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), otherwise known as The Lovaas Program.More info:

CAREER OPPORTUNITY:The Childrens Foundation offers a fantastic opportunity to work with Dr. Richard Foxx, Dr. Glen Davies, Sharon Baxter and ABLE Developmental Clinic in developing and operating a pilot ABA Teaching Home for two youth who have been recipients of ABA therapy but remain with very challenging behavior. This state-of-the-art program has been designed by Dr. Foxx and his colleagues in the United States.
Funding for the pilot project is provided through Community Living British Columbia. Local clinical supervision is provided by ABLE Developmental Clinic. The program is hosted and administered by The Children's Foundation.
Several full and part-time positions are available for experienced behavior interventionists. Compensation and benefits are competitive. TCF has a CUPE Agreement and is guided by that Collective Agreement.

You must be able to work at least 2 shifts (2-3 hours each) a week shifts are usually after school hours (after 3pm). You must be able to attend 1 team meeting a month. We are asking for at least a 1 year commitment. You must have a criminal record check done.
