Therapists required to work on our home-based Lovaas-style Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) team, with our 2-year old son. Under supervision, therapists implement a pre-set programme which includes home-based work and outings in the community. Data-taking is a required component of the programme.
These positions will appeal to people with an interest in psychology, education, special education, speech/language pathology or any other career involving children and clinical therapy. This is not only a very good opportunity to gain training and job experience with minimal qualifications but also is a fabulously rewarding to see a young childs world expand and to know that you are helping that child participate fully in their environment.
Enthusiasm, dedication, able to take constructive feedback and implement it immediately, reliability and a willingness to learn are required. Energy and a positive attitude is a must.
Were looking for people that are available to work during the day or after school hours and also on weekends.
Therapy sessions will take place in our home located in Ambleside, West Vancouver. Pay is according to experience. We require a commitment to the team of minimum 6 months and a weekly requirement to attend 2-3 shifts of three hours each, plus team meetings. You could easily work around your university schedule.
No experience is required. Under our consultant, extensive and ongoing training will be provided in the Lovaas method of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), an intensive behavioral program where the children are systematically taught what other children learn intuitively from their family and peers.
Only apply if you are a natural at relating to children. A current criminal record check will be required.
If interested, please send a copy of your resume with a covering letter discussing your qualifications to persianvet@shaw.ca and refer to therapists needed. We welcome all applicants, including those with little or no training in the field! We are looking for just the right person, experience is not required as training is provided.

May 4, 2006 at 5:31 am #9243Theresa JouanParticipantEveryone wants to improve- this is your chance to carve out your own niche in the Autism community AND help our very advanced learner progress in the program and in life!
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on under Rachel Russell- who is VERY well respected among professionals in and out of our community. Exposure to her programs are consistently sought after by aspiring instructors in the field.
This position will also help future grad school/ med school prospects get that 'edge' for their applications.
Our highly generalized program is ground breaking and we do not often look for instructors due to the very low turn-over we experience on this team.
Comprehensive individualized training will be supplied for all successful applicants.Don't let this opportunity pass you by!

Subject: Response to your e-mailTo Whom Concerned:
Tama , was 1 hour late coming here today from CBI.
I took Tama, in the living room and I started talking about- RESPITE, that we can't even go
to church or go out together as a couple anymore. My husband was in the kitchen getting ready for work and upset also about respite, and was asking her if she knew when we would get it, because our Social Worker-Lori Richardson, told us she would see at one time if CBI, could help our family get Respite.
This was promised a year ago, by Wayne Doane and another worker that came.Anyway, Stan, was upset and raised his voice in a stern way, but wasn't loud.He did not use any profanity. She said she can't stay in such of an environment and took off without James & Brian, she had misunderstood Stan, Stan, was upset not only because of the No Respite, but she took offense to that and told Brian my older son, that this is a bad environment for James, suggesting him going to a grouphome, which we are totally against.
James, is doing really well, thanks to his doctors, he loves living here with us. If things are not perfect, its because we have no respite at all. We were promised it last year when CBI came aboard. Tracy, from CBI, mentioned in front of James that James should go to a grouphome, also, for respite. James, got very angry and upset and reverted back to his frightened feelings when he was sexual abused in the group home in Maple Ridge. He is doing fine here at home. Cbi; gives us no schedule of what they plan to do with James monthly, Tama, told us she just finds out on the spot when she comes from James. So I have no idea of what CBI; is planning for James, it makes it more professional, to know whats going on. They need a stratigic plan and follow through with it, and scientific Behavior consultants.
Brian is a special person for helping James to learn ABA and Lovaas modified treatment, Brian, works hard with James.
I don't think anyone has an idea how it is to live in someone elses shoes–not unless they have walked in them.
Sincerely,
Linda & Stan Cucek
Dear Tracy,
We would like to continue working with CBI, as up until this incident we had no problems with your organization. As for the accusation of false statements and inaccuracies made in the letter yesterday, none have been made. Every member of my family who was in the room at the time, can confirm the statement made yesterday to be true.
We would like to resume the program with James, every delay affects James and his progress. If a new behavior consultant is needed to repair the damage, we will take that option. But the most important thing here is to get James and his development through this program, back on track.
Thank you,
Linda and Stan Cucek,

Subject: response to your e-mailDear Stan and Linda,
I am writing this letter in response to the e-mail you sent me on May 1, 2006 regarding the consultation service provided by Tama Menges of CBI Consultants. It is unfortunate the incident that occurred resulted in Tama being extremely upset and subsequently leaving your home. It is equally unfortunate that you chose to write a letter that includes false statement and inaccuracies.
As her supervisor and co-director of CBI Consultants, I fully support Tamas decision to leave your home because of the inappropriate manner in which she was being treated. CBI has a policy of ensuring the safety and well being of our employees. CBI will not subject our employees to verbal aggressive behaviour including being yelled at and the use of profanity directed towards them. The behaviour and actions that Tama was subjected to seriously jeopardizes the working relationship that CBI has established with your family.
Furthermore, the issue of respite was an inappropriate discussion to be having with Tama. The role of respite care is not her responsibility. Tamas role is to provide behavioural support services to James and your family.
I have instructed Tama to discontinue CBI services to your family effective immediately, until further notice. I plan to have discussions with Community Living BC regarding how or if CBI will continue our consultative services to James and your family. If you have any questions regarding this decision, please contact me directly to discuss your concerns.

May 1, 2006 at 9:44 pm #9248Andrea FinchParticipantHi Everyone;
Happy Spring!
"Spring has sprung, the grass is green,
Does anyone else want to do a Spring Clean?"As coordinators of the North Shore Chapter of ASBC, we are wondering whether anyone else out there is interested in getting rid of old stimuli and reinforcers, or in picking up items "new to you". We could use the current location of our monthly talks, St. David's Church in West. Vancouver, and the available time is Saturday, June 3rd, from 10 am – 12 noon. We can either use their parking lot, if it's nice out, or head inside if it's not. We're not sure whether they have tables, but generally a tarp or blanket is enough.
This would be a swap for ABA-related materials only. Participants would have to be responsible for all items brought on to and taken off the premises (that means, we don't want to be hauling away anybody else's stuff at the end of the day!) So all participants should plan to send a parent, therapist, or other responsible person.
This seems to us like a great opportunity for teams to refresh their team's stimuli or reinforcers, but we need a minimum number of answers to make this worthwhile. So, if you're prepared to commit to this date, please get back to Andrea (at andreafinch@shaw.ca) or Eva (eva@evaleeassociates.com) by May 7th and specify (1) whether you are interested, (2) whether you wish to donate/sell items, or pick up items, or both and (3) the general nature of the items you have (whether they're geared to pre-school, elementary, etc.).
We will post again after May 7th to let everyone know whether this event is going to occur or not.
Cheers,
Andrea and Eva
