Parental Input Needed!
I am co-preparing a workshop on the issue of parents and professionals working together to implement a home based program. The premise is that there are three sides to a successful ABA program: parents, professionals and the line workers. We will be using a behavioral perspective to examine the challenges of creating and maintaining an effective ABA home program.
In particular I would like to look at the challenges ABA parents face:
-hiring, training and maintaining staff
-issues with staff
-exhaustion
-lack of normalcy in day to day life
-frustrations
-general stress levels
-effects of a home program on family life
-solutions you have implemented, those that worked and those that didn'tThis workshop will be presented by myself, Sharon Baxter and Tyla Frewing at the Annual Association for Behavior Analysis Convention in Atlanta. This is an international convention. But please be rest assured, anything presented will be done so in a way that protects you and your child's right to privacy and confidentiality. All names will be removed, all details that reveal identity excluded etc.
Your challenges and solutions can be emailed to me at MichelleKarrenaba@yahoo.ca with the subject header "workshop". If you are comfortable with my posting your solutions (only, I will not post challenges that have not been resolved) on the FEAT board, you can indicate this in your email. I will keep all of your information confidential and any information shared at the workshop or on the FEAT board will have all names and details removed.
Thank you,
Michelle Karren

As I live in Port Coquitlam, I would prefer to work in or near the Tri-Cities area, but am also open to working in other areas if a good opportunity presents itself.

May 16, 2006 at 12:07 am #9226Mehdi HassanzadehMemberTHERAPISTS NEEDED!
Therapists required to work on our home-based Lovaas-style Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) team, with our 2-year old son. Under supervision, therapists implement a pre-set programme which includes home-based work and outings in the community. Data-taking is a required component of the programme.
These positions will appeal to people with an interest in psychology, education, special education, speech/language pathology or any other career involving children and clinical therapy. This is not only a very good opportunity to gain training and job experience with minimal qualifications but also is a fabulously rewarding to see a young childs world expand and to know that you are helping that child participate fully in their environment.
Enthusiasm, dedication, able to take constructive feedback and implement it immediately, reliability and a willingness to learn are required. Energy and a positive attitude is a must.
Were looking for people that are available to work during the day or after school hours and also on weekends.
Therapy sessions will take place in our home located in Ambleside, West Vancouver. Pay is according to experience. We require a commitment to the team of minimum 6 months and a weekly requirement to attend 2-3 shifts of three hours each, plus team meetings. You could easily work around your university schedule.
No experience is required. Under our consultant, extensive and ongoing training will be provided in the Lovaas method of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), an intensive behavioral program where the children are systematically taught what other children learn intuitively from their family and peers.
Only apply if you are a natural at relating to children. A current criminal record check will be required.
If interested, please send a copy of your resume with a covering letter discussing your qualifications to persianvet@shaw.ca and refer to therapists needed. We welcome all applicants, including those with little or no training in the field! We are looking for just the right person, experience is not required as training is provided.
May 13, 2006 at 6:51 am #9227Eckhard PerkMemberMy apologies to everyone on the discussion board! When I tried posting my ad, I kept getting a system error message while uploading my text, which made me think it hadn't displayed. I then decided that I would try adjusting my ad's size to make it work, not realizing that it had worked each time. Result: 4 messages about the same thing (oops).
