August 19, 2006 at 4:01 pm #9442Dorothy RayMemberThis post is for any BC families with autistic children who have moved to Alberta recently and experienced both BC's and Alta's autism treatment/support offerings first-hand. Our family may need to move soon, and we'd like to know the state of things in Alberta before-hand in order to make some key decisions. If you can tell us ANYthing, please feel free to contact us privately by email at roganddot@shaw.ca . If you are willing to include your phone # we would be very glad to call you in order to speak with you in person.
Thanks in advance! Dorothy Roy
August 19, 2006 at 6:02 am #9443Further to Sharon's posting (Aug 11th) about resources for hiring students as ABA tutors: we've posted three times on the UBC job board with some success (our veteran ABA tutor was hired from UBC). However, we received more applications from qualified people the third time around after we posted a detailed description of the job. A lot of students who apply don't know much about ABA (understandably) and sometimes have misconceptions. We found it helped to be clear on what autism is, what the work involves, and what skills are required. If you like, email us and we'll send you our posting. It isn't a magic formula, but it may give you a place to start. BTW, even after beefing up the posting, we still got a few applications from people who met none of the qualifications. That's to be expected.
