Harmony House is opening in September 2007! The focus of this preschool will be a developmental curriculum that allows for inclusion by supporting children with autism with their peers. Approximately 4 students will have had a diagnosis of autism and another 10 will be typical peers. The four children with autism will have individual aides trained in the methods of Applied Behaviour Analysis. These aides will be provided and supervised by Harmony House.
The goal is to allow for observational learning for the children with autism with an emphasis on social skills, communication and play! Typical peers will be engaged in an exciting curriculum that will be accompanied by a music CD that focuses on learning about the world around them as well as developing new and amazing friendships!
The preschool is looking for 4 ABA aides to facilitate interaction and follow prescribed goals for children with autism. The school requires one of the aides to have their Early Childhood Education license. The appropriate candidate will have worked with 3-4 families and have 500 hours of supervised ABA. Abbotsford family is establishing a team of people to conduct ABA therapy with a 2 yr old boy, newly diagnosed. ABA experience is preferred. However, we are willing to train motivated individuals. I am pleased to welcome Pat Tesan from Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN). Pat is the Family Support Coordinator for PLAN. She will share her experience in planning for the future for those who will continue to need our support into adulthood. Pat has set up a microboard for her daughter, a social network through PLAN for her daughter, and Pat has experience in helping people with the transitioning to adulthood process.

We started our Lovaas program with our consultant from the Early Autism Project in mid-July 2006. We are now working with local EAP consultant Kim Kirsch. Our 4 and a half year old daughter was diagnosed with ASD last spring and is extremely high functioning and delightful, with a lot of language and rapidly developing social skills. She is very playful and enthusiastic. The program is progressing rapidly and we still need one more therapist to round out our team. You must be available for 6 to 9 hours therapy time per week, plus team meetings every second Wednesday afternoon. Training will be provided. Wages are negotiable depending on experience. I have two years experience doing ABA and am looking to take on more clients. I have a great work ethic, I am energetic, and I am a quick learner. I will be doing a full time practicum (elementary education) in September and am therefore only looking for employment from now until August. I currently have availability between 11:00am-3:00pm with some flexibility depending on the day.
