Thursday October 18th
7 9 pmWe are pleased to welcome Bohdanna Popowycz Kvam, Nicole Kaler and Sarah Pastrana from Harmony House to speak at our October meeting.
About Our Speakers
Bohdanna has over 20 years of experience working with individuals with autism. She worked and trained in Applied Behaviour Analysis treatment for 9 years at the largest Lovaas replication site in the world. Bohdanna has implemented and led programs for over 500 children of varying abilities. She continues her role in directing, mentoring and expanding the resources available to people with autism, by helping found Harmony House, which will focus on educating children with autism.Nicole is a parent who is passionate about providing educational choices and resources for parents.
Sarah (nee Engelland) is working on her Masters in ABA from St Cloud State. She has worked as a Behavioural Interventionist and Lead Therapist in numerous programs over the last 6 years. During that time she has worked with 9 children and completed more than 3500 hours of ABA treatment time.
About Harmony House
Harmony House CARES (Centre for Autism Research Education Society) was established for several purposes. The first was to establish an inclusive preschool integrating children with autism with their typical peers. The idea is to facilitate an environment that encourages friendships on all levels prior to the elementary years. This pilot project includes 4 children with autism supported full time by highly trained ABA aides and up to 10 children without a diagnosis. The goal is to benefit all children by providing a school enriched by monthly themes, structured daily centres and creative and exciting circle times. Our next goal is to provide parents with children in elementary and high school with a choice for their children with ASDs educational needs. The Harmony House elementary school will be an ABA school providing children with education in collaboration with schools, full time or whatever portion of time the child requires to match with other public education. Our aim is not to replace the public school but to allow choice and re-integration when appropriate on an individual case by case basis.
Refreshments will be provided.

October 5, 2007 at 1:18 am #9995Jan NuscheMemberLooking for a experienced therapist interested in becoming an SEA
Our son is 13 years old and has just started grade 8. He has attended Langley Fine Arts School since grade 1 and has friends there. He is easy going, flexible, cooperative and eager to learn. He has a great sense of humor and will make you laugh.
He needs an ABA Support worker for high school. He needs someone who is eager to work with his home team and consultant to integrate his learning into his classroom. Last year he had an SEA-Autism and it was a successful and positive year for him, but unfortunately that SEA left to continue her education. Because he is an easy boy to work with he can easily be "babysat" by an aid who isn't ABA qualified. He deserves an education and our goal is to see him graduate with a Dogwood.
If you are interested or have considered becoming an SEA, please contact me so we can talk about options. Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you!
