This part-time position which would be excellent work experience and training for students pursuing careers in Psychology, Education, Medicine or Speech and Language Pathology. You will work with a professional team and be trained by Twila MacDonald (our Consultant) who works under Michele Anderson.

You will learn the discrete trial method including data collection. At the end of your work period I will provide you with a reference.

Shifts:

PART TIME, LONG-TERM ABA INTERVENTIONIST POSITION (Coquitlam)

Currently seeking part-time line therapist to join established team and work with our adorable 3-year-old HF autistic son. We have local ABA consultant (Alaknanda Majumdar of Miles Of Smiles) who creates all programs for us and provides ongoing, thorough training. ONE YEAR COMMITMENT TO TEAM REQUIRED.

We are currently looking to fill a minimum of two of the following shifts: Monday, Thursday or Friday afternoons (approximately 2 ½ hours per shift), plus biweekly team meetings (one hour). Shifts may or may not change in January depending on availability of all team members.

Applicant must attend team meetings and training. Current criminal record check must be provided by applicant. Ideal part time position for university student…must be 19 years or older.

Description of duties:
You will be working in the home of the child diagnosed on the autism spectrum, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. During your sessions when you work one-on-one with the child, you will model age-appropriate play, communication, and social skills. Together with the child, you will play with puzzles, sing songs, dance and build blocks, push cars and trains, and anything else that the child enjoys. You will incorporate specific goals during play and table-work, and track progress on data-sheets at the end of the session. Each session lasts approximately 3 hours, and you will be asked to work 3-5 sessions per week. Excellent play-skills are required. There will also be a brief team meeting twice a month to discuss the child’s progress and discuss any concerns that may arise from the program.

Qualifications:
-Must be 19 years or older
Experience with small children a must (paid training detailing specific duties is provided). Any experience with special needs children is a definite asset. Applicants with an education in Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy are encouraged to apply.
The candidates are required to be self-motivated, extremely reliable, enthusiastic, and possess excellent communication skills. A car and a valid driver’s license is a great asset.
