May 16, 2008 at 6:39 pm #10268Cathy FitzhughParticipantParents: do you have a great lead that can use another team?
LEAD POSITION AVAILABLE IN VANCOUVER!We are still looking for someone, and fast!
We need a NEW lead therapist for our well-established team. Our six year old daughter is high functioning, verbal, gentle, affectionate, and very entertaining. Her therapy is fascinating, and her progress is swift. We do lots of peer play, community outings, and we have fun summer plans. We are currently working under the guidance of EAP (the Early Autism Project.) Hence, it is a home-based ABA program.
Previous experience with ABA programs is a must.Training will be provided by our current lead or our consultant.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: running sessions on your own, arranging team meetings bi-weekly, overlapping with our consultant, providing reports to the consultant, and overlapping therapists. You will also need to provide feedback to therapists and us, train new therapists, oversee data recorded, probe new targets, and, coach the team. Our team meetings are currently held every second Thursday evening from 4:30-6:00. Phew! You, of course, need to be FUN, responsible, dedicated, and creative. Youll have strong play skills, a positive attitude, and have lots of energy and patience. You are a good multi-tasker, are organized, encouraging, enthusiastic, and responsible.
You also need to be able to take constructive feedback and implement it immediately.A current criminal record check will be required, and your salary will be negotiable based on your experience and your performance.
We live in central Vancouver near Main and Broadway.

Make sure you set aside Tuesday, May 20th, for our next presentation: Taking the Long View: ABA Families Plan for the Future
The next two North Shore ASBC sessions will address different aspects of long term planning for parents of children with autism.
Many of us have pre-schoolers or primary school aged kids, and many of us are focussed on the present, often hoping our ABA experience will be over… some day. But it is never too early to think about the long term, and only realistic to think about the future, especially when we can take advantage of those who are further along in their programmes than we are.
In May, we are delighted to have Jean Lewis, fellow parent and FEAT of B.C. co-founder, who with a child entering the teen years has some helpful suggestions and experiences to share.
Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Time: 7 -9 p.m.
Location: Peters Room in the West Vancouver Memorial Library, 1950 Marine Drive in West Van. (between 19th and 20th Streets). The library is easily accessible via Highway #1 Upper Levels), taking either the 15th Street or 20th St. exits.Coffee/Tea and snacks provided.

Michele MartinezMay 10, 2008 at 5:10 pm #10275Mike & JeanParticipantJust a reminder – Watch CTV's W5 tonight at 7:00 p.m. Titled,"Life on the Brink", is a story of how Canadian families, which includes all of us, are dealing with the extraordinary costs of providing treatment for our children with autism. Our national political initiative to have autism treatment covered under Medicare is part of the story. It is the second story in the program, so will begin about 7:30 p.m.
We encourage you to watch the program and to email your comments to W5 at its conclusion. Go to http://www.ctv.ca and click on W5.
The program runs again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
