We need one more dedicated, encouraging, enthusiastic, responsible, and creative person to join our home-based ABA program.
We live in central Vancouver near Main and Broadway.
Our six year old daughter is low on the spectrum, has been receiving ABA therapy for four years, and is *very* verbal, affectionate, and fun. Her programs are fascinating, and her progress is swift.
We work with the Early Autism Project and our consultant is Kim Kirsch.
Beyond running programs in the apartment, you will be helping her learn to socialize with other children through facilitated play dates, take community outings, play games, make art, and go to the playground. There is a lot of laughter involved in her sessions!
**If you have experience with running play dates, please contact us, we are losing a member of the team who is very skilled in this department and need an equally excellent replacement.**
Previous experience with autistic children would be an asset.
But, we will also be interested in individuals with a psychology or special education background. Initial training will be provided by our senior therapist along with follow up sessions.These positions will appeal to people with an interest in psychology, education, special education, speech/language pathology or any other career involving children and clinical therapy.
This is not only a very good opportunity to gain training and job experience with minimal qualifications but also a fabulously rewarding experience.
All applicants should have strong play skills, have a positive attitude, be good multi-taskers, be able to take constructive feedback and implement it immediately, and should have lots of energy and patience. Our team rocks! And we really appreciate what YOU do.
As a therapist, you need to be able to commit to: two 3-hour-shifts a week, plus attend biweekly team progress meetings on Thursdays from 5:00-6:30.
You also must be able to commit to the team for at least one year. Salary is negotiable and is based on experience.
And as par, a current criminal record check will be required.Please e-mail resumes to scissorhappy@shaw.ca
Thanks Very Much,{Cathy}

September 11, 2008 at 6:17 pm #10454Debra AntifaevMemberIt would be an understatement to say our Medicare for Autism Now! fundraiser at Capones last Saturday was a success. Not only did we exceed our monetary target for the evening, it would be safe to say that over half the attendees did not have a child with autism. Fair-minded Canadians are starting to see that autism affects us all and the treatment for children with autism should be as available as any other medical treatment. Lets hope the Federal policy changers are starting to notice too!
We had such a hard working team and such a successful drive we did not have enough room to display all of our generously donated silent auction gifts, so we have decided to raffle the remainder off at our Medicare for autism now! rally on October 4th at Eaglequest Golf Club. This way the generous donations will still go to the intended cause.
The election is at hand and this may be the last time we have all the FEAT and ASBC volunteers working together to effect policy change in this manner. We have to make the politicians see that this is not a Provincial issue that they can ignore. It is a National election issue that could influence their ability to win or hold power. Please remember that prior to 1999 a select few, who were sworn to secrecy, did receive limited funding. It was snatched away. Unless Autism treatment funding is enshrined in the HealthCare Act you could lose the paltry amount of money you receive at any time.
It is incumbent on EVERY parent or relative of a child with autism, who is not receiving adequate funding, to ATTEND this rally. This is a minimum requirement. You will not be asked to volunteer. You will only be asked to give up two hours of your time to stand with your peers, listen to the speeches and support each other.
