May 27, 2009 at 1:35 am #10561Mark BoucherMemberGreetings,
My name is Mark and I have been working with individuals on the autism spectrum for the past two years. This summer I am putting together a social group for male teenagers aged 14-18 with high functioning autism/Asperger's.
In the social group my goals are to focus on:
1) Self Advocacy
2) Fitness/Nutrition
3) Self Defense/ Anti-Bullying Techniques
4) Social Skills
5) Career GoalsThe majority of my experience comes from growing up with a family member with a developmental disability. From this experience I have developed specialized programming for the above five goals and helped establish a still thriving social community for teenagers with developmental disabilities in my hometown.
In the last two years I have worked as a behavior interventionist with students across the spectrum under BCBA consultation.
Currently I work as an SEA in the Burnaby School District full time in a secondary school, and I also do one on one life coaching with a high functioning teenager with Asperger's.
I am currently training for my level one Coaching Certification in the Crossfit methodology. I have extensive training in the art of Krav Maga, a reality based self defense system.
The lesson plans and course content will be supervised by a behavior consultant and will be taking place from July to August.
Thanks for your consideration.

Our family is eagerly looking for therapists (tutors), both senior and junior, to join our home based ABA program that we have running for our very charming and playful, high functioning 4 year old son.
Previous experience working with children with Autism would be fantastic, but is not essential. Individuals interested in psychology, education, speech pathology or any other career involving children are welcome.
We are guided on this journey by our Consultant, the very capable and passionate, Kathryn Theroux from the Able Clinic.
This is a great opportunity to receive training and hands on experience in ABA therapy with minimal initial qualifications. What you should have is lots of energy and patience, strong play skills, a positive attitude and good multi-tasking abilities. Enthusiam, dedication, reliability, an open mind and a willingness to learn are most desirable.
As a therapist you need to be able to commit to: two or three, 3 hour shifts each week, in addition to attending bi-weekly team meetings.
Salary is negotiable and is based on experience; only apply if you are a natural at relating to children. We will ask that you make a one-year commitment to the team and as a matter of course, we will require a criminal record check.
We are located 5 minutes from the Second Narrows bridge, on a bus route, in the Windsor Park area of North Vancouver.
Please e-mail resumes or any inquiries to onedea@shaw.ca.
Telephone inquiries are also welcome at 604-765-0342.Previous applicants are encouraged and welcome to apply

May 19, 2009 at 5:57 am #10566Nancy WaltonParticipantThe ABA Support Network is holding a
Toy Sale / Pizza night Social!!!
Thursday June 4th 6-9pm
At Nancy Walton's house: 1176 Keil Crescent, White Rock (off Cliff, 3 blocks West of Stayte Street)
Here's how it works. Old timers donate their toys or ABA Supplies that are no longer being used. Come to meet newer generation parents and offer support and advice or just come to chat. Newer parents, come to buy toys and supplies at CHEAP prices. Proceeds will go to the ABA Support Network to help pay for monthly meetings.
The sale will take place from 6 – 7 pm, then we will break for dinner. At 8pm, prices will be 50% off. At the end of the night (8:30), anything that is left can be taken for FREE.
Tickets for Pizza and glass of wine (or juice or pop) will be $10 or $15 for a couple (we'd like to encourage both partners to come for the socializing). Sold at the door. Please RSVP to Dione at dionec@shaw.ca, so we know how much pizza/wine/pop to order.
If you are unable to make it to this evening, but would like to donate toys, you can contact Louise in Ocean Park (abarocks@gmail.com), Nancy in White Rock (wiklo@shaw.ca) or Dione in Panorama Ridge.
Hope to see you there!!
