Whoops I forgot to mention in te previous ad regarding a school aid
My e-mail is aba_instructor@hotmail.comNovember 24, 2009 at 1:21 am #10758Madison LeflerMemberI am currently looking for a person that can serve as a classroom aid for a 6 year old boy with Autism.
This job would start in the new year, with going with the child to pre-school once or twice per week, and or working with him in his home on social and academic skills. Then in the fall of 2010 this position would be a full time (30 hours per week) position or part time, if you wanted to job share. This would entail going with the child to kindergarten or grade one at a private school in port coquitlam. You would be working with the classroom teacher to assist the child throughout the school day. You will need to be available in the summer to train for this.
We are looking for someone is willing to be trained and is willing to learn….experience would be great but is not necessary.
This might also possibly be applied for as two different jobs……one for the pre-school aid and home worker, and one for the school support system to be trained in the summer and start in the fall.
If you are interested or looking for more information please contact me via e-mail.

It was especially gratifying to see so many new faces in the crowd. We did manage to leave some of our literature in the Premier's mail box so that, one way or another, our message will get out to him. And don't forget your "homework" assignment – to write, phone, email or otherwise bombard the Premier's office and demand that science-based treatment for autism be covered under our medical services plan in it's entirety.
Thanks again for a great effort today!

Please come and show your support tomorrow from noon-1pm. Come early to find parking and bring your umbrella and a picture of your kid!
Friday, November 13th, 2009
12:00 Noon
Premier Gordon Campbells Constituency Office
3615 West 4th Ave
Vancouver, BCWhy should you attend?
The recent tragic deaths of two Canadian children with autism, killed at the hands of their own parents, is a wake up call! The status quo is putting the health of children and their very lives in jeopardy.
Septembers announcement by the Ministry of Children and Family Development has shown that our government is not concerned about the rights and needs of some of its most vulnerable citizens.
No legislation or mandate exists to deliver health care to children with autism or to protect and enshrine their right to their medically necessary treatment. What little individualized funding being provided now is in jeopardy of being taken away.
Autism is an epidemic! According to the Center for Disease Control, it now affects one in every 100 children in North America.
It is time for our provincial government to recognize its responsibility to act and to demonstrate leadership for the rest of Canada!
Who should attend?
-parents, grandparents, friends, consultants, therapists, anyone who is concerned about this injustice to our children. We urge you all to attend this rally!

Our family is searching for therapists (tutors), both line and lead, to join our home based ABA program for our very charming and playful 3 year old son.
Previous experience working with children with Autism would be fantastic but not essential. Individuals interested in psychology, education, speech pathology or any other career involving children are welcome to apply. Training and support will be provided by our consultants from Harmony House.
This is a great opportunity to receive training and hands on experience in ABA therapy with minimal initial qualifications. What you should have is lots of energy and patience, strong play skills, a positive attitude and good multi-tasking abilities. Enthusiasm, dedication, reliability, an open mind and a willingness to learn are most desirable.
As a therapist you need to be able to commit to two or three, 2 hour shifts each week, in addition to attending bi-weekly team meetings.
Salary is negotiable and is based on experience. Only apply if you are a natural at relating to children. We will ask that you make a one-year commitment to the team. We require references and a criminal record check.
We are located in Port Coquitlam. We are on a public transit route.
Please e-mail resumes or any inquiries to catgirl@shaw.ca
Telephone inquiries are also welcome at 778-285-4759.November 12, 2009 at 12:34 am #10724Louise TaylorMemberPlease tune in to The Bill Good Show on CKNW radio (980 on the AM dial) on Thursday, Nov 12th at 9:00 AM.
Louise Witt, FEAT Spokesperson, and Jean Lewis of Medicare for Autism Now! will be discussing the upcoming rally at the Premiers office. This rally is about providing necessary healthcare and its purpose is to keep pressure on Government for full science-based autism treatment, thereby ending discrimination against people with autism
November 11, 2009 at 6:54 pm #10725Nancy WaltonParticipantI'd just like to point out that ASBC and the ABA Support Network know that their meetings have occured on the same date. When the ABA Support Network booked our meetings, we were not aware that the ASBC planned their meetings for the third Tuesday of each month. From December onwards, the ABA SN meetings will be on the second Tuesday of each month. So our meetings will no longer coincide and parents will be able to attend both.
We also would have prefered that the meetings were not on the same weekday, but we were unable to book space on any other weekday.
The ABA Support Network fully endorses the ASBC meetings and we encourage parents to attend as many of both our meetings as possible to get educated and get connected to other parents.

For Immediate Release:
Parents of autistic children and their supporters will rally outside Premier Gordon Campbells constituency office this Friday, November the 13th at noon to protest the provincial governments attempt to begin to dismantle individualized treatment funding and to mark the 5th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canadas Auton decision.
FEAT of BC (Families for Early Autism Treatment of BC) is a not-for-profit volunteer organization of parents and professionals working towards universal access to effective, science-based treatment for all Canadians diagnosed with autism.
Louise Witt, board member and spokesperson for FEAT of BC states that The recent tragic deaths of two Canadian children with autism, killed at the hands of their own parents, are a wake up call. The status quo is putting the health of children and their very lives in jeopardy. At present, no mandate exists to deliver healthcare to children with autism or to enshrine their right to this medically necessary treatment.
Its been five years since the Auton decision was overturned by the Supreme Court of Canada and kids with autism are still being denied their treatment says Bev Sharpe, one of the founding members of FEAT of BC. How many more children have to die? Its long past time for the government to do the morally right and economically sensible thing, which is to provide treatment to these vulnerable children.
For more information, contact Louise Witt at 778-999-0971 or http://www.featbc.org
