cdekova@telus.netFebruary 9, 2010 at 5:46 am #7400Sophia GrewalMemberAttention all South Asian families:
My name is Sophia Grewal and I am a doctoral student at Pacific University in Portland, Oregon. I am currently working on a research study that will help identify the needs of South Asian families who have children with autism.
I believe that this is valuable research that will allow psychologists, behavioral consultants, and other professionals to gain a better understanding of the difficulties faced by South Asian families when they seek services. This study will help providers tailor their treatments to the needs of South Asian families and children, and hopefully improve effectiveness and satisfaction.
I am originally from Surrey, BC. and after working with children on the autism spectrum for 3 years, it became evident to me that ethnic minority families encounter unique barriers to treatment for their children. My goal is speak to as many families as possible in order to objectively identify these barriers, which is the first step to breaking them down.
Your participation will require that you complete an in-person or telephone interview, which will take between 45 and 90 minutes. This interview may take place in your home or another quiet, public place if you prefer. I would like to emphasize that the study is COMPLETELY confidential. Results of the study will not include your name or your child's name. I will only discuss common themes found through my interviews with all of the families and will not single out any individuals or families.
If you are interested in participating, or if you would like more information about the study, please email me at sophiag@pacificu.edu or call 604-570-5000. Please leave your name and a phone number where you can be reached to set up an interview.
I look forward to hearing from you!

February 3, 2010 at 10:40 pm #7401David BridgesMemberHey there
I have 2 slightly-used men's hockey skates for a young person on the spectrum who plays hockey or who likes to skate. They are Bauer Supreme 8090s, size 8.5EE (shoe size 10).
Only used one season -they turned out to be a bit small for me. Lightwieght but with lots of support and protection from those wicked slapshots!!!
If you're a self-advocate or the parent of someone with autism, and you are interested in these skates, I will give you a great deal. Brand new these can cost several hundred dollars.
Feel free to email me c/o dbridges1@shaw.ca
Cheers,
DB
