December 5, 2010 at 7:06 am #7594Liana MaioneParticipant
I am posting on behalf of a family that I provide Consultation for:
Come and work with an adorable 2 (nearly 3)-year-old boy who is learning new things every day!
We are looking for a dedicated instructor to join our amazing team. We run a consistent, intensive and comprehensive program for our little boy. Due to schedule changes this term, we have some openings to fill. Currently, the following times are available: Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. We are looking for someone that can fill at least two (ideally three) of these time slots. You must also be able to attend team meetings every other week.
This is a fantastic opportunity to come and fine tune your skills. We offer frequent overlaps and ongoing training. Our Behaviour Consultant, Liana Maione, provides intensive supervision and we are fortunate to also have two very strong Leads. Experience is preferred, but we will also consider training the right person if you are dedicated and committed to our team. We live in Surrey.
If you are interested, please contact our Consultant, at lianamaione@telus.net for more information and our contact information.
Hope to hear from you!
December 3, 2010 at 5:31 am #7595Nancy WaltonParticipantYOU can help bring quality ABA to all of BC. Please fill out the survey mentioned below:
MCFD is circulating a survey to assist in the development of a new Outreach Program for Young Children with ASD. Directors of featbc and the ABA Support Network have discussed ideas for this program, based on input from parents we have assisted throughout the province. We feel that there are two very important strategies to put in place in BC and we would like parents and professionals to focus on these two goals when filling out the survey:
1) To give scholarships to 5 ABA therapists in BC to complete a Masters degree in ABA with a focus in autism at a university where there is clinical supervision, with the proviso that these therapists return to work in the Interior BC, Northern BC or on Vancouver Island for 3 years. If all students attended the same program (such as the CABAS program at Teachers College Columbia University in New York City), then they could support each other upon returning home, and provide training to further increase capacity.
2) To establish a Masters and Doctorate ABA training program that includes clinical supervision at a university in BC.
If you would like to see what CABAS program is, you can go to http://www.cabas.com. CABAS is a comprehensive ABA training program based on the principles of VERBAL BEHAVIOUR.
We strongly recommend you complete the survey (see details below) and suggest the above recommendations,
Two surveys are also available NOW through the Autism Community

December 2, 2010 at 7:34 pm #7598Sheila HotraMemberHi,
Just wondering if anyone has any advice or has run into the same situation with RCA. We have been claiming ABA Tutoring as Medical Expenses for quite some time now & never had a problem other that RCA requesting to see the receipts.
My accountant noticed that RCA missed giving us the Federal Disibility Tax Credit for 2008 so she put in an adjustment for 2008.
Now they have gone back & done a reassessment of our 2008 taxes & are stating that we can not claim Tutoring as medical expenses & that we owe them $ now. "The fees you pay for therapy administered to individuals who are eligible for the Disibility tax credit amount must be prescribed by & administered under the supervision of a medical doctor or psychologist".
I normally send a letter from our Pediatrician stating that this is an ongoing issue & he requires this therapy, but it does not necessarily state that he supervises it.
Has anyone had the same problem & if so what did you do to resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or is it best not to stir the pot?
Thanks in advance,
