We're very interested in the boxing bag! Can you please call us at 250-618-4482. Thanks.
Carol and DarrinApril 27, 2011 at 9:51 pm #7696David BridgesMemberFree to a good home: one very friendly cat, a spayed female Ragdoll cross. 3 years old. Large and playful, and an outdoor cat. Gets along well with small dogs and is used to kids on the spectrum (like our son). Our lifestyle now doesn't suit having a kitty so we thought we'd give her to a nice family that doesn't travel as much.
Also we have a boxing/kickboxing bag/stand in good condition for anyone who wants it. The base of the stand is filled with water. Hardly ever used. We're in West Van.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Leah and I am an experienced, dedicated and passionate teacher from Ireland (now living in Downtown Vancouver) with a Bachelor of Education with music and a Masters in Education and special needs. I have worked as a full-time elementary classroom teacher in an all boys' school in Ireland from 2007 to 2010. (Teaching grades K-2/3) I take pride in providing children with the encouragement, support and quality instruction to succeed and flourish.
My background in music education, art education and music therapy would enable me to bring something very special and unique to your child's team. I have much practical and research experience in the area of music education and have found music to be a very special and positive force in children's lives.
I left Ireland in order to further an already rewarding career and gain rewarding teaching experiences. When I arrived here in Vancouver I was given the opportunity to work one-on-one with the most amazing little boy on a daily basis. In the past 7 months I have watched him grow and flourish. It has been the most amazing experience watching his progress and how each member of his team has contributed to his many successes. This has given me a huge interest in ABA therapy and it is an avenue I would really like to explore.
I would like to experience successes with more children and contribute to their development by using the skills and experience I have acquired over the past number of years. My aim is to gain as much experience as possible working with professionals using ABA therapy for the next couple of years. This experience along with my teaching experience will, I hope, make me an ideal candidate to study for a doctorate in Educational Psychology in five years or so. (My probably over- ambitious plan!)
E-mail me if you think that I would be a positive force on your child's team.
I can forward further information, referees and excellent written references (Canadian and Irish) upon request. Thanks for reading!

April 24, 2011 at 10:20 pm #7700Mike & JeanParticipantIt's Spring!! and a man's thoughts turn to – Yes!- Powerwashing.
We have a Karcher electric 1200psi powerwasher that we don't need any more. It is in good shape, still in the box with all the bits and pieces and the instructions.
Rather than selling it I thought we would pass it on the someone who makes a reasonable donation to the Medicare for Autism Now movie project. If you are interested please let me know your interest and how much you would be prepared to donate at michael.lewis@telus.net
The only catch is you need to pick it up, we are in West Vancouver

April 20, 2011 at 6:13 am #7702Sandy ElkinMemberHi all,
We're new to ASD. Our 9 year old son has recently been diagnosed – PDD-NOS. We're looking for the following advice:
1- a pediatrician in Langley (or close) who has a good understanding of ASD
2- a BC who is experienced with older children (9 years) w/ behaviour challenges, ADHD and dyslexia -let's just say learing brings on resistance. Oh, yea – major sibling rivalry too. We've been given the name of Dr. Sara White – any possitive/negative feedback?
3- BI's w/ experience w/ 9year olds (I'm worried to hire someone 'green' as I feel @ 9 years old we're starting really late).
4- a tax accountant who can help w/ the disability tax credit
5- any advice on the process of getting started on this journey is much appreciated.Sandy
sandrakay@shaw.caApril 19, 2011 at 2:26 pm #7703Leah MumfordParticipantLooking for an SEA in West Van with ABA experience.
A family in West Van is looking for an SEA with ABA experience for next year. The student will be in Grade 2 next year, and is a gifted, social, funny little guy who loves the Canucks. The family runs a home team with the consultation of Sara White and myself, and we provide a high level of support and collaboration with the school.
SEA experience is ideal, but not required, as West Van does not require the SETA qualifications that most other districts do. If interested, please forward resume to: leahmumford@gmail.com.
Thank you!
