Tutor for home base program required in the North Vancouver area to work with a 14 year boy with ASD. Experience with children with autism and/or ABA is an asset but not required.
Our son is a happy boy with interests in music, drums and piano, taking pictures and recording videos, computer wiz, as well as loving ice skating and roller-skating, swimming, rock climbing and playing outside. He has difficulty expressing himself and socializing with peers.
Training will be provided under the supervision of our certified BCBA behaviour consultant. Your role will be to systematically and scientifically teach our son communication, social and behavioural skills. You are required to collect data throughout your one on one session and at a monthly team meeting discuss the progress of the programs with the team. You will work one-on-one with our son both in-home and in the community to support his social language development, peer interactions and perspective communication skills.
Ideal for final year college students (especially those in psychology, social work or education).
The position is part time for the next 4 months and summer and hopefully full time during the next school year. Pay is commensurate with experience.

– be responsible and energetic with strong communication skills
– be at least 19 years old
– have some experience working with children
– have a clear criminal record check
– have reliable transportation
– be available to attend monthly team meetings
– want to make a difference in a child's life

We are looking for someone either currently working in the Surrey School District or who has 1000 hours of home experience and interested in applying to work in the district to make a match with our son.
This is a highly flexible position that could be a perfect fit for someone looking for school based experience but needs to work around education, children or other jobs. We are an experienced, involved and supportive family working with a well established team and a very ABA friendly South Surrey school.
We need you to brings a strong work ethic and clarity about how these 20 hours (4 or 5 days per week) will fit into your schedule. You will be working with a funny, social, high functioning child, so experience with subtle social support and generalized teaching is very important.

This is an opportunity to join the established Home ABA Team of a 21 year old male young adult with Autism. He has been in an ABA program since the age of 3. He has a good sense of humor, is eager to learn & socially motivated so working with him can be a rewarding experience. This position is for you if you wold love to work with Special Needs children/young adults, are very comfortable with discipline, want to work in a team environment and are excellent at multi-talking. You will gain experience in behaviour management and you will learn to master the discrete trial method including data collection. These skills will particularly benefit those entering the fields of education, kinesiology, speech & language pathology and psychology and/or someone seeking and enriched learning experience.
No experience is necessary. Training is provided. This position is for a minimum of 10 hours per week, mornings (9:00a.m. to 12:00 noon), afternoons (12:00 noon to 5:00pm), evenings and weekends. Home Team meetings take place once per month and are currently on Tuesday mornings from 9:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. A car is an asset, our home is located in the Lynn Valley area of North Vancouver.
You will work one-ion-one with the young adult at his home, in the community or at his new job site teaching/supporting him in some or all of the following areas:
– employment; provide one-on-one support to the young adult on his job site weekdays
– life skills; menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking & house keeping

Our son was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old and has been doing ABA therapy for 4 years now. He has had the same ABA SW for three years now; she went to preschool (2 years) and kindergarten with him this year and sadly it is time for her to move on.

We do not have enough notice to hire someone new and get them enough hours and training to go into the school system this year. Our son's position will open up when his ABA SW leaves and as it stands we don't have someone to put into the system with him.
