Hello!
[Posting on behalf of a family]
I work with a family who is hoping to set up a peer mentor for their 13 year old son in South Surrey. This kiddo is socially motivated, athletic, enjoys the outdoors & going out to restaurants. He’s also a whiz on Instagram!
Ideally, we are looking for someone, age (16-20) to commit to a regular weekend session (1.5-2 hours long) to have a fun hang-out session, doing something athletic, e.g., basketball, bike riding, etc. Our ideal candidate is someone who is understanding of a person with ASD, hopefully with some experience. I believe this would be would be a wonderful opportunity for a sibling of a child with ASD, but we are open to ideas!
If interested, please email me at: Leahvanspronsen@gmail.com
Thank you,
Leah MumfordParticipantI've received some questions about the volunteer positions for the ABA Camp- below is some information that may help.
This summer, we are pleased to be partnering again with the Autism Society of BC and the Surrey School District to provide a summer camp for children in an ABA home program. The ASBC Summer Camp will operate out of Jessie Lee Elementary and will provide a space for children to come with support staff to continue with their 1:1 worker as well as interact with other children and explore the local community. This camp would be ideal for a student in an intensive home and school ABA program, whose program is supervised by a Behavior Consultant.
There will be camp leaders who will plan daily activities and outings for the students, including crafts, snacks, art and trips in the community. There will also be 2 hours during the day for students to work on 1:1 programs. Most often, 1:1 will take place in the morning, with outings to follow most afternoons, and 1 day will be a longer outing. The hours will reflect a typical school day: 9:00-2:30, Monday to Friday for each week in July (July 6-July 31). Students are welcome to sign up for any number of weeks, or all 4. The school is open to any student who has an ABA-home based program, and who is entering Kindergarten to entering grade 8, and who is currently a student in the Surrey School District. Parents are required to hire and train their own support workers for the camp.

Are you a current ABA-SW considering a change? Are you a new ABA-SW candidate, looking for a position in September? If so, we would love to meet with you!
We are looking for someone who is interested in an ABA-SW position in a supportive South Surrey school. This student will be entering grade 6 in September, has full-time coverage, is high functioning, with a program focused on academic support and social skills development. He has been in a well-established home program for almost 8 years, and has an involved and committed family. There is a high level of consultant support provided by Leah Mumford. Leah MumfordParticipantHello there,

Can anyone recommend a good spelling program on the computer? There are many spelling review/testing games on-line, but we are looking specifically for a program to teach the spelling words that we can customize to match his spelling lists from school. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

LeahLeah MumfordParticipantHello,
A colleague of mine, who is a website developer, as well as an advocate for evidence-based education, is working on creating a website for teaching social skills. The activities on this website will be for kids with and without ASD. He is currently looking for research participants for the website, to field-test the activities. All activities have been based on current research, and have also been reviewed by professionals in the field of education and ABA. Please see the message below, and contact the team if you are interested!
Hi everyone, we are working on a new website for parents, providing resources that help build your child's social skills using evidence-based content. We are looking parents who can spend 30 – 60 minutes reviewing and provide their honest feedback.
If you are interested, and currently have at least one child between the ages of 3 and 7, please contact us at {info@whyslearning.com}. Thanks for your interest!

We are looking for someone who is interested in an ABA-SW position in a supportive South Surrey school. This grade 5 student has full-time coverage, is high functioning, with a program focused on academic support and social skills development. He has been in a well-established home program for over 7 years, and has an involved and committed family. There is a high level of consultant support provided by Leah Mumford. This request is time sensitive as we have only just learned that his current ABA-SW will be leaving in April. Ideally, we would like someone who is interested in continuing in this position for the 2014/15 school year, but our more immediate need is to fill the 3 last months of this school year. (E.g., This may suit university students who are looking for full-time work once exams are finished.) If you have 1,000 hours of ABA experience, or will be close to that by April (non-agency hours), are collaborative, able to multi-task, and would enjoy working with an excellent and experienced home team, please contact the family at mummyx2@hotmail.com at your earliest convenience. We look forward to hearing from you, and know that you will love joining this dynamic and collaborative team.
