Tamara asked me to post this because many parents had the same question:

Question: The FEAT Houston site talks about something called Sundberg/Partington ABA. Is this anything like Lovaas ABA?

Answer: Nope. Also known as Verbal Behaviour, it is very different. Some Lovaas ABA consultants use aspects of it for a non-verbal child as part of an ABA program.

I have a dumb question about the James Cusek case: how much of an impact is it likely to make, when there is already an Auton case in the Supreme Court?

Regarding Nancy's Sept 11 message about looking everywhere for potential therapists: I think I am now on the security watch list of every mall in the lower mainland, as the pervert who approaches every nice girl working in the mall. I will continue to do this until I get tossed out, even though I do not need a new therapist at this moment, because I know some parent will benefit. I encourage the moms to do this as much as possible, so the dads do not all get arrested.

Can anyone recommend a good speech/language development scale being used by their SLP to plan and measure progress? After getting the autism diagnosis, I asked my son's SLP to show me the curriculum she used so I could integrate it into the intervention program. She spent two hours giving me the "I'm the professional you're not" attitude, and charged me $200 for the discussion. I am extremely unhappy for having to tolerate her arrogance, but she knows she can get away with anything because SLPs are so much in demand. In other words, I am desperate and she's not. Since I know I will never get her to do it, I will now do the work of planning and tracking progress, and hope she will cooperate. What I'm looking for is a list of milestones, each with a list of criteria. Thank you very much.

Does anyone know an autism-friendly sunday school? I shed a few tears yesterday when my son and I were kicked out of the classroom. He couldn't stop crying after a little girl's scream frightened him. (I don't blame the very young teacher, but I was very unhappy thinking of the discrimination we will face in the future.)

    I just read this article:

    http://www.thejournalnews.com/mindbody/august03/karate.html

Does anyone know of an autism-friendly karate class in BC?

Has anyone tried putting their kid into a karate class around here?
