Hi All,
First, I would like to thank very much all FEAT B.C. parents who keep posting their successful stories about what ABA therapy has been doing for their children regardless of if they have just recently started or if they have been doing it for many years. These positive stories are a true encouragement to all parents to continue their hard work with ABA and never give up their fight, the same way that they cannot give up loving their children.
When I say this, I think of not giving up on ABA with our children no matter how severely they can be disabled with their autism, and I thank all parents, relatives, professionals and Canadian citizens who fight to get this medically necessary treatment fully funded by Medicare. Our children must receive their ABA treatment continuously and intensively as prescribed by a physician and qualified Behavior Consultant. However, all funding our children presently receive under the Ministry of Children and Families is a direct result of parentsâ law suits and can be removed with the stroke of a pen.
Our autism population needs to receive their services and treatment from the age of diagnosis through to adult years, but they do not have their medically necessary treatment covered by Medicare. In addition to this injustice, medical treatment for any other condition is not automatically removed due to an age restriction but in a case of autism population we have exactly the opposite. Please take a look at the following example with the latest news of what happens with the teenage and adult population with autism in Ontario:
Ground-breaking adult autism survey reveals mountain of unmet needs:
http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/2013/02/05/groundbreaking_adult_autism_survey_reveals_mountain_of_unmet_needs.htmlThis injustice should not happen anywhere, especially not in Canada!
If you are Canadians who care about your loved ones and your neighbours, who love your country and believe in true human values, who would like to stop this terrible injustice to our disabled population and change their lives, please join Civil Rights Now!Parents, families and friends, please come to the Civil Rights Now! event on March 23rd !!!

Good news for all parents who will stay on a direct payment option and another great reason not to switch to the invoice payment option- THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION MAIKING AUTISM SERVICE PROVIDERS SERVICES EXEMPT FROM GST/HST HAS PASSED!
From the first information provided, being that it is a new legislation, your consultant should fax the letter to GST/HST Rulings requesting a written ruling (which is legally binding) for each specific case. The following information should be provided: what the consultants education and/or certifications are (including if they are on the RASP list), who are the consultants services provided to, what those services consists of, and how the consultants is paid (including the information about payment from the government vs. parents).
For those consultants who already have a GST/HST number, the number would be discontinued (if services were determined to be exempt). If the consultant does other things in addition to exempt services, he/she may still need a GST number to use for those services.Your consultant should call the GST/HST Rulings, let them to read the ruling and then send the letter in. It takes about 2-3 weeks to receive a reply. The contact information is:

Dubravka SkrijeljMemberFEATBC is not providing support to biomedical approaches simply because this organization states behind scientifically proven treatments only, at this time it is Dr. Lovaas method.
I agree that we should have some organization to inform parents about the biomedical approach, and I believe that only professionals with medical background should be listened to when we want to consider any of biomedical treatments, since some of them can help but some of them can cause the damage with potential lethal consequences. I had a chance to meet a naturopath who worked for one of the DAN! doctors in USA. He told me that he will not support 90% of the treatments they experimented with autistic kids and his personal opinion is that at this point of time they are selling the treatment of the day at very high prices because parents will pay any price for their hope to help their children.
As long as the biomedical approach is not scientifically proven it is considered experimental and it is up to the parent to make a decision will they try any of these treatments. The treatments are not covered by our Medicare and most of them are not approved or supported by our MDs. If the doctors will not recommend some specific treatment why the parents should do it – do we have more medical knowledge than our doctors? But the question was why we have to waste the precious time because we don't get the information about some bio treatments that POSSIBLY CAN provide MEDICAL help to our children- so, maybe the College of Physicians and Surgeons should be addressed with asking this question instead of asking at FEATBC?Dubravka SkrijeljMemberExperienced ABA Therapist required:

http://sev.prnewswire.com/health-care-hospitals/20070626/NYTU02426062007-1.htmlJune 26, 2007 – Autism Study (includes video) – FOX 6 San Diego – "Do childhood vaccines contribute to autism? A study released Tuesday says there is no doubt about it. The phone survey commissioned by Generation Rescue polled the parents of 17,000 children in Oregon and California, including right here in San Diego. It showed that vaccinated boys are two and a half times more likely to be diagnosed with neurological disorders, including autism and ADHD than boys who were not vaccinated. 'It was a shock to many to find out that unvaccinated children have never been looked at to compare the prevalence rate of things like ADHD to vaccinated children,' said Generation Rescue's J.B. Handley. 'Despite what you may read in the media, the work has never been done.'" http://www.fox6.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=e2e68f36-a524-494f-9346-514a2b3e836e
