    >I'm thinking of getting an allergy test for my son .. to see if he is allergic to gluten or any other stuff that regular allergy test wont show it .. any recommendation for naturopathic doctor that is good and has a good experience with autism .

Please do not believe all the quackery surrounding gluten/casein diets. Most children, if not all, are not affected by these diets. The diets are completely scientifically unproven. And believe me there are lots of people out there who would like to prove that they do work… so far none have. We fell into this trap early on with our child's treatment. For a time we even believed that it had some effect. Until we decided that we would test if the lack of gluten/casein actually did have a measurable effect on her. We found that our daughter improved once we introduced milk and bread etc back into her diet.

Some say there are no negative effects, so why not try it? Well there are negative effects… 1. Autistic children are known for being self limiting in food selection, so if an autistic child is eating a food, don't stop giving it to them unless they are allergic (skin test, done by a medical doctor). If you decide to "try" not giving it to them, and then try to reintroduce it later, there is a good possibility they will no longer accept that food. You will have made their food selection issues even more problematic. (We had a very tough time getting our daughter to eat foods we eliminated and she still will not drink milk directly 2. Rice milk is very constipating which will cause bowel enlargement and further issues 3. Excessive time, money, and energy needed to maintain these diets. Making special recipes, etc, when it is all not necessary. These resources would be much better spent concentrating on proven therapy methods. 4. Early in treatment it is very difficult to tell what is causing certain behaviors in autistic children, which can lead you to believe it is a particular food causing the problem when it is something else. (Low quality ABA treatment, drop in treatment hours, sleep issues, headache, illness, the list goes on) 5. Positive gains achieved through ABA treatment might be thought to be caused by removal of certain foods from diet.

One of the biggest proponents of these "naturopathic" therapies is Jenny McCarthy. One thing she conveniently fails to mention (except for a few lines/paragraphs in her books) is that her son received some of the best ABA therapies in the world at UCLA. (Where Lovaas pioneered scientifically proven ABA therapies. Therapies which have almost 50% recovery rates if done correctly.)

Sadly few places in the world have that type of access to proper ABA treatment (BC included). Consultants not getting 50% success rates with 30-40 hrs per week programs (and started before 40 months) are not using correct methods. Ask your consultant what their record is before hiring them! Always "follow the money". The best way to protect your child from ineffective treatment methods is to educate yourself.

We recommend you spend your time reading the following books:

    – "A Work In Progress" by Leaf and McEachin
    – "Teaching Individuals with Developmental Delays" by Lovaas
    – "Behavioral Intervention for Young Children with Autism" by Maurice, Green and Luce

We are looking for a special needs assistant, play therapist, or ECE for our 5yr old daughter. Our daughter was diagnosed with autism 3 years ago, and has received intensive therapy with significant progress since then. We are looking for somebody capable of running 1:1 play dates in our home, and do some play therapy. The right candidate would accompany her to Kindergarten next Fall half time. We are needing somebody who is highly skilled and confident at interacting with children (both special needs and typically developing). The main parts of your job will be to actively facilitate social interactions between our daughter and her typically developing peers, teach play skills, and promote language. You must have a fun yet assertive personality, and a strong dedication to use every opportunity possible to positively impact our daughters' future. You will need to have great attention to detail and be quick to not miss interaction opportunities. Our daughter is currently in an ABA program, so a general understanding of ABA is an asset. You will be trained on the principals of ABA on the job, and will receive guidance from our high level Consultant. You must be willing to accept feedback, and be able to adjust quickly.
Your pay will be determined by your experience, but more importantly your ability.

    Please respond to smurfette200@gmail.com

Free graphing paper. Our previous consultant had us purchase this paper for $100. We used very little of it, and no longer need it. Free to a family who has a use for it. It is nearly 500 sheets of Tpmin-4EC Timings per minute in English on Commercial. The website it was purchased from is: Behavior Research CO. We are in Abbotsford, so if you would like it, you could come pick it up. Sorry we aren't able to deliver or mail it. Please e-mail smurfette200@gmail.com if interested.

We are running a 40hr/wk Lovaas style ABA program (under the supervision of a qualified consultant), and are looking to hire a highly qualified behavior interventionist to work with our sweet, smart 4yr old daughter. Our daughter has been in therapy since she was 2.5 years old, and has made significant gains.

Her language is currently still developing, so we are looking for somebody who is proficient at reading children and motivating/teaching them to communicate.

Also, we are needing somebody who is capable of running high quality 1:1 playdates.

    The person we hire must:
-have a degree in pyschology, speech pathology or equivalent (please attach your post-secondary education transcript).
-have experience as a behavior interventionist (with preschool age children).
-be highly skilled at reading/understanding children and their behaviors and how to adjust to help them learn at an optimal rate (ie. advanced prompting strategies).
-be detail oriented with an exceptional memory, but not so detail oriented that it restricts creativity and adaptability.
    -be high energy.
-be patient and thoughtful of childrens' feelings.
-be honest, reliable, and open to constructive feedback.
-feel a genuine sense of excitement/happiness for a child when he/she learns a new skill, and pride in the fact that your ability to effectively teach is making a life-long difference.
-have no physical constraints, that would prevent you from playing for up to 3hrs on the floor (including lifting her).
-have your own reliable transportation to West Abbotsford.
-be available for team meetings every other week (usually Friday's). Meetings are between 12:00-2:30pm.
-be able to work at least (4) 3.5hr shifts per week. Shifts are 9:00am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-5:00pm). Shifts run 7 days per week.
-be able to commit to the position for at least 1 year.
    -be a non-smoker.

Pay depends on amount of experience, education, and skill.

A criminal record check is required.

If you are interested and meet the above qualifications, please send your cover letter, resume, and transcript of grades to sweetheart.aba@gmail.com . Also include the minimum and maximum number of shifts you would prefer to work, as well as which shifts you can or cannot cover (please be very specific).

Only successful applicants will be contacted due to time constraints.
