Hello All, well it looks like on Friday the 26th of this month we will be given the diagnosis of autism for our son Ty. So my question is what do we do from here? What is the first step we take? Please… I need help. Thank you very much, Melodie (Ty's mom) m_pilloud@yahoo.ca

Hello everyone, well this is a little update… just to let you know that Ty will be finished his testing on Friday the 26th of July. I am so glad that ABLE clinic and SMH took Ty's case. The last I heard from Sunny Hill we would be waiting another year or so before they would see Ty. I understand they are busy… but gosh I did not think it would take so long for them to see my baby boy. But I guess you all know what I am talking about as you have been there before. It would seem that Ty is going to get the autism diagnosis. I am a little sad but happy at the same time. It is just nice to know what is wrong with my little baby. Anyways I was wondering if someone could tell me what the next step is after the diagnosis. I am feeling lost once again. I am also very sad as I have been told (and I'm not sure if it's true) that the money the government will be giving for Ty will do for ABA for the first year… But then what???? I am sad and angry that because we are a low income family that my son will have to suffer with not enough threapy after the first year. But I guess you all can understand that as well!
We will be moving to Chilliwack at the end of this week and so I was wondering if someone could tell me about the treatment in that area. Will I have to get people from Abbotsford to come out there? Won't that cost more money? Won't that mean that my son will have less therapy than he needs…. there for will he not be losing out?
I am sorry for so many questions and worries… I am still new at all of this.
And I agree with you Mr.P's dad… on your last post. It is very sad!

Hello everyone, I have a very important question for you all. We may have to move out of town at the end of this month. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any ABA therapy groups etc up in Penticton. I worry so much about taking Ty out of town and not having what he needs. And we do not have money to move someone up there or money to come down all the time. Please if someone could help with some info for us that would be really great. Melodie & Ty m_pilloud@yahoo.ca

Hello again, I want to ask a question that all of you should have been through before and maybe you might have some good ideas for me. Here we go… What do you tell people who say things like " Why do they bring that kid in here… don't they know how to control that kid!" or " what is wrong with him? Why is he like that?" I have had people give us rude looks, say we shouldn't come to the resturant with our kids if they are going to act like that, to getting up and leaving because we are being rude by having Ty out with us! What are we to do.. leave him at home? Tell we get the funding we can do nothing. So I do not know how to help Ty so that he does not screech or cry in the way that drives these people crazy. Please I need help. P.S. Thank you to those who wrote me back on my last post. Melodie & Ty at m_pilloud@yahoo.ca

Hello again All, well I made a call to Sunny Hill today… boy am I up set! I was told in the first place that after I sent the forms back in that it would take 6 – 8 months before Ty would get in to see them. So I called to see how things were going as they have had the forms for 2 months now. And they told me today when I was on the phone with them… they told me he won't be in for another 8 – 12 months. I am so angry with them. I do understand that there are many children with autism spectrum… and who need testing… but Gosh I wish they would have told me that in the first place. But on a good note … Ty has an appointment with Dr. Delevie July 11th and we start at ABLE clinic on the 10th of July. This is good news for Ty. I guess you all know what I am going through right now. Thank you for listening to me go on. Hope all is well with all of you and your families. Take care, Melodie & Ty

Hello Everyone, I am just writing to tell you a couple of things. One is that we have asked our GP to send us to see Dr. Melvin DeLevi. Two is that Sunny Hill called me today to let me know that Ty will be in somewhere between 6 – 8 months. It makes me happy to know that it will not be 8 – 12 months. And the last thing is that my husband and I were able to go see a theripy session this evening. My husband and I would still like to see a few others and would love to go to the next monthly meeting as well. Well thanks for listening to me… I am just so happy that things are making a little progress. Hope all is well with you all and the kids. Melodie

Hello Everyone, I have yet another question for you. We took Ty for his hearing test today and the tech told us she thinks that Ty just has hearing problems… not autism. My question to all of you is… when you took your child for tests like this did people tell you the same type of thing? I would love to believe that is all that is wrong with Ty, but I just am not very sure what to think anymore. I am so confused. Anyways Thank you in advance for any info or advice you can give to me. Hello all, I was just wondering how the meeting went last night. I am sorry that I missed it… but Ty is still sick with fever and ear infections and I am still sick as well. We have to take Ty for his hearing test tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck. I am hoping to go to the next meeting and Thank you Nancy for the offer of a ride. I will take you up on it next meeting. All the best to everyone and the kids. Melodie
