I thought that I would include an example to further my post….

you could cut out the basic elements, dot, circle, curved line, angled line and straight line and have the therapist and your daughter collage them on a paper.

you could get her to try imitate drawing lines across the collage

later on your could get her to place the pre cut shapes by the therapists direction, above, below, on top, beside.

Then you could have her place them to represent something, a house, a person,

you can add drawing to the collage or representations as she is able.

You can also play games finding these basic elements in the room or elsewhere.

You will find that these collages look neat and are appealing in themselves and are fun to do.

Hi Cathy and anyone else interested in Art programs

    I highly recommend

Drawing With Children by Mona Brookes

Children are taught 5 elements of shape and gives beginners the basic information needed to analyze and reproduce what they see. It has been used widely with children who have visual and auditory issues yet it can be used with anyone.

There are many examples of exercise and warm-up and there is a description of what to expect/teach at level 1,2 and 3.

You can borrow it through you local library-

We are in the process of starting up an ABA program for our 8 year old son. He was recently diagnosed with high functioning ASD after years of various other diagnosis due to birth complications and medical illness. He has been on 2 medications for the past 2.5 years, Concerta and Zoloft, plus a melatonin supplement. We are considering whether or not we should stop any/ or all of the med's to get a more raw baseline of his behaviour.

The concerta is easy enough to cut out even for a short period of time, however, the zoloft requires 6 weeks or more to start/stop.

We would be really appreciative of any advice or comments,

    Kindly,
    Suzanne
