I am posting this on behalf of another family.

Looking for an ABA therapist to work with an energetic, talkative and fun 9 year old boy in Port Coquitlam (just minutes off of Hwy 1). His program includes grade level academics, social-skills programming as well as a focus on communication, play and physical activity.

Great experience to work under the supervision of Dr. Sara White and Courtney Phillips.

Looking for someone to work 2 shifts per week (2 hours each) afterschool (3:30-5:30ish) and the possibility of a weekend shift. Attendance at all team meetings (once every 3 weeks) is mandatory. All training will be provided.

Please contact Jamica at wkong@shaw.ca if you are interested and put "ABA therapist position" in the subject line.

    Thanks so much!
    Courtney

I just wanted to say a big Congratulations to student with autism, who has worked so very hard in everything that he does and who was nominated and recieved North Vancouver's Active Hero. He appears in the North Vancouver Recreation Leisure Guide (Winter 2009-10). Truly inspiring to read this and to see how ABA can help someone with autism make their way, successfully into adulthood. Below is the write up (minus the picture that is in the guide) of this special young man.

    An Inspiration
    “Ryan is an inspiration to
    everyone around him.”
Seventeen year old Ryan is a
    familiar face at the Karen
    Magnussen Community Recreation
Centre where he trains with his
    Argyle School Grade 11 Boy
    Strength Training Class twice a
week. Ryan also runs 3.5 miles
three times a week with his family
members and tutors to reach his
    short term goal of
    running 75 miles.
Ryan has participated in the 5km
ALS Walk Run and Roll and plans
to do the Sun Run with his family.
Ryan is also in the Vancouver
    Adaptive Snow Sports Program
    where he skies on Grouse
Mountain once a week and enjoys
    going into the beginner terrain
    park and taking jumps!
What you may not have known is
    that Ryan has Autism Spectrum
    Disorder. Ryan is an inspiration
and is truly a great example of one
    of North Vancouver’s
    Active Heroes.
    – submitted by Ryan’s tutor

    Respite/Community Outings Therapist

Looking for fun, energetic, and outgoing individuals to help fill in some holes on our team.

Duties can include: going to the gym, swimming, running, skiing, bowling, golfing and other community outings. May also include some video game playing, and a little bit of rocking out on guitar on Rockband! Who can resist a 'job' that includes a description of duties like this?

Student is a grade 12 male with autism, working under Dr. Sara White and Courtney Phillips.

With all of the fun activities, a clear and concrete grasp of this student's behavioral intervention plan is required and extreme consistency must be demonstrated in all environments, so you must also possess this skill on top of some fantastic gaming skills:-)

Shifts may include week-nights, weekend days or weekend nights and will likely be fairly flexible, which would be perfect for a University student or someone not wanting to add another 'team', but instead just a few more shifts a month.

Please email Courtney at cpaigemapson@hotmail.com if you're interested.

    Thanks!

Would you like to become an SEA? Do you love kids, love doing ABA and want a more permanent job, with less traveling? An AMAZING opportunity to work under Rachel Russell has come available and we are currently interviewing to find the right aide for our son.

We are looking for someone who is outgoing, energetic, friendly and motivated to work with our son in the W. Vancouver school district. Our son is an amazingly loving and adorable 9 year old, who will be entering grade 4 at a new school in the fall. We are looking for someone with experience; however this is not a requirement, as we will provide all training.

    Requirements of the job entail:
-1:1 therapy with the child in the school setting
-Facilitating social interactions with peers in the classroom and outside
-Attend bi-weekly team meetings, afterschool hours at the child’s house, with home-ABA team
-Be willing to attend all consults and meetings (non-negotiable for this position, as consistency is key to this child’s success)
-Implement behavior intervention plans in the school setting
-Be fun, goofy and a ‘child-magnet’ so that other children in the school will want to hang out with you and the child!
-Run group recess and lunch activities with the child and other students.
-Take discrete trial data across the school day on the child’s IEP goals.
    -Be available for training ASAP!
-Work with the child for 2 sessions per week when training in the school has been completed in June, for the remainder of the summer.
-Must be willing to continue working across the summer, in the home environment, for consistency purposes.
-Be willing to make a 2 year commitment
-No experience is necessary, as all training will be provided

If you are interested in this amazing opportunity, please contact Courtney at cpaigemapson@hotmail.com

    THERAPISTS WANTED!!!!

I have 2 families who are both looking to add therapists to their well-established home teams. Both live on the North Shore, within minutes of eachother. If you are interested, you do not have to commit to both teams, but that is an option if you are looking for lots of hours.

Both ABA teams are run under the supervision of the FANTASTIC consultant, Rachel Russell. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is wanting to get some high quality training and who is interested in pursuing this as a career. Possible advancements to Case Manager and Senior Therapist are also an option.

Therapy hours in the Summer varies, but in the fall, therapy will take place afterschool, evening and weekends. You must be willing to commit to 2 shifts per week plus team meetings (every other week), and be willing to make a 1 year commitment.

If you are interested, please email Courtney at cpaigemapson@hotmail.com, subject line: FEAT therapist ad.

To add more info to the Thomas Recall:

After sending to my sister whose little one is a Thomas Freak! She informed me that any recalled Thomas items can be taken back to any Thomas retailer (such as Wal-mart, Toys R Us, Toy Jungle) – if you no longer have a receipt, you will get the last sale price for them, and if the items were bought in a set, the items must be returned in a set.

    Hope this helps!

Hi everyone – a therapist brought to my attention a FANTASTIC (free!) website which could be used as reinforcement if you have a child who is a VIDEO nut!

http://www.youtube.com – and plug in your child's favorite video name into it and choices will pop up below. You'll get to play a 3-5 minute clip of the video and no downloading involved.

Because this is not a child-specific website, I would suggest parental/therapist supervision b/c there will be some choices that are not the actual cartoon/movie. Or try plugging the ones they like into your favourites list on your internet browser.

Will probably save some families huge in renting and buying costs of videos and should decrease satiation b/c the video clips are short and can pick novel ones each time!!!

    Fantastic OPPORTUNITY:

A fantastic opportunity is available to work with 2 separate families who are willing to work closely together, to share training and resources.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on either 1 or 2 ABA teams under the supervision of Rachel Russell. You will also be working under the direction of a Speech Pathologist from NY, Joanne Gerenser. This is also a great opportunity to work with 2 highly motivated and committed families. The senior instructor is the same on both teams and high degree of consistency is maintained on both teams.

Both families are located on the North Shore – approximately 5 minutes apart. It is a great opportunity for those instructors who travel a great deal from family to family, because your travel time would be 5 minutes. Both families are located directly on a bus route also.

Interested applicants must be willing to make a 1-year commitment and be willing to attend home team meetings and home consultations.

These positions also have the potential for a school position in 2007/2008 school year as well.

Although we are looking to hire someone for both positions, we will also look at people only wanting to take on only 1 of the clients.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! If you are looking to do your Master's Degree, these are the position for you!

    Send your resume to: cpaigemapson@hotmail.com

Jenny – if you go to http://www.access2.ca, you can download a form (funded through easter seals) in which your child recieves a card that allows them to enter either free or aide free. I can't remember exactly – but definately a huge saving. It's called an Access2 card. Hope this helps.
