Looking for a BI who is fun, energetic, engaging and reliable for a very high functioning 9-year old boy mild Asperger's. We live in Burnaby and are looking for BI with a vehicle to 'hang out' with our son about 4 hours per week Monday 5:30-7:30pm and Wednesday 4:30-6:30pm while commuting him to martial arts classes from North Burnaby to Victoria Drive in Vancouver.

Our son is very cognitively advanced and his issues are mainly with transitions and social skills (using positive encouraging language, knowing when to stop explaining/talking, judging social situations, wondering about other's thoughts and feelings, being thoughtful, etc. ). He is very social and has lots of great friendships with other peers and also has 2 older siblings. The BI would use the time in the car to develop a fun rapport and talk about common interests, and create interest in coming home and doing homework.

    Applicants must:
-be very patient, fun, lively, enjoy teaching and playing with children
    -experienced, energetic, independent and creative
-understands the nuances of Asperger's and how to creatively assist with a child development in a fun and subtle manner
    -recent criminal record check
    – have a car and Drivers License
    – be at least 18 years of age
    – give minimum 1 year commitment

Please send resume and cover email to shashimaharaj@hotmail.com explaining why you be a good fit for this job. Please include your contact information and date available to start.

    Thank you!!

    Thanks!

Has anyone had experience with the Summer Camp led by ABA LC program supervisors and BIs? It seems to be the only one I have heard of that is a full day camp and works on social thinking skills and flexible thinking in the Burnaby/Vancouver area. I am also a new parent on this site and am grateful to the other parents for all the support and helpful tips. Thank you!!

Thank you Nancy! That site was VERY helpful. Now onto the next issue. I'm in the process of hiring a Program Supervisor and wondering if anyone has worked with ABA Centre and has any positive/negative experiences to report. I'm totally new to this so welcome any feedback. Feel free to email me at shashimaharaj@hotmail.com if you prefer to remain anonymous.

Hi, our 7-year old son was just diagnosed with Asperger's a few weeks ago. We are indundated with information right now and just trying to figure out which path to do down. Right now we are doing our taxes and by reading this site, it seems we are eligible for the T2201 Disability Credit. Does anyone know if we qualify based on 'mental impairment' and whether we can have our psychologist complete the form?
