Subject: North Shore ASBC Support Group Lecture Series – September 2008

    ** ANNOUNCING **

The North Shore Support Group Lecture Series is back for the 2008-2009 season at the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

Our first presentation will be: School is NOW in Session: A presentation on supporting our children in school.

We are very pleased to have the following guest speakers at our upcoming session:

Mike Hancock – Mike is a parent of a child with autism, and a former in-house counsel for the Vancouver School Board. He has also previously worked in private practice with a focus
on education law. He will review our children's rights under the School Act.

Judy Anderson – Judy is a parent of a child with autism, and a Auton litigant. She will talk about writing IEP's and managing the school/parent relationship.

This is a great opportunity for anyone with a school-aged child, or with a child coming up to school age, to learn and ask questions about how to work at integrating your home-based ABA programme into the school system.

    Reminder

    Hello Everyone!
Next in the North Shore ASBC Parent Support Group series: "Halfway There " . We would like to welcome all parents, therapists, teachers and interested supporters.
We are pleased to have Dr. Glen Davies of ABLE Developmental Clinic as our guest speaker. We are so fortunate to have someone with his vast experience with children diagnosed with autism available to speak to us. Dr. Davies' dedication and compassion to helping our kids is truly a blessing.
Dr. Davies will discuss where he sees the state of our services for kids with autism. That is, huge gains from the past but only half way to what we want and need. He was going to talk about some of the gaps that still remain, e.g., Appropriate funding for <6>6,Chair in Autism, University Clinic, etc. He will also comment on ABA teaching homes.
Part of our session will be open to Q & A with Dr. Davies. So come with your questions.
Please come out even if you don't live on the North Shore.

    FISH TANK and ACCESSORIES

We have a 33 gallon fish tank and all the accessories that we'd like to give away. We had fish for a couple of years, but our little guy isn't that interested in them anymore. It is a large tank with a rounded front, comes with a stand, heater, filter… It has not been in use for a year or so, so it needs a little cleaning.

You would need to come to North Vancouver to pick this up.

    Interested? Email: lirenmoo@shaw.ca

**Looking for summer hours?? Therpaists needed in North Vancouver**

We are looking for therapist/ tutors to train for summer hours ( or longer :0) ) Our almost 7 year old son is loved by all who work with him and we would like to maximize his hours for the summer. Our terrific team is headed by Michele Shilvock and Kelley Lloyd-Jones. We are located in Upper Lynn Valley, but are close to a bus route.

    Thanks,
