    Attention Parents and Professionals:

There will be a joint F.E.A.T. of B.C. and Autism Society of B.C. parent meeting on Tuesday, October 25th.

We are pleased to be co-hosting: "So – You want to be my child's MP?"

A Federal General Election is coming soon, probably in the spring, 2006. What are the federal political partys' positions with respect to people with disabilities and specifically people with autism? What are their positions on: treatment and treatment funding, access to health care, education, housing, employment, discrimination and protection under the Charter?

This is the first in what we intend to be a series of meetings with candidates representing all the federal political parties. F.E.A.T. of B.C. and The Autism Society of B.C. does not endorse any political party or candidate.

Our guest this meeting will be: John Weston, candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada, West Vancouver, Sunshine Coast, Sea-to-Sky Country. Come out and meet John for an evening of presentation, questions and answers but mainly conversation. This is a valuable opportunity for parents and concerned professionals to hear what our potential members of parlaiment have to say on this issue. It will also help determine how we, the parents and concerned professionals cast our votes.

    Where: St. David's United Church
1525 Taylor Way, West Vancouver, B.C.

    Time: Tuesday, Oct. 25th, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Please RSVP Andrea Finch at andreafinch@shaw.ca or Eva Lee at eva@evaleeassociates.com to reserve a spot.

Thanks! See you on the 25th.

This year the Autism Society of BC is one of the recepient charity's for the proceeds of the UBC Arts County Fair which will be held April 8th at Thunderbird Statium.

Volenteers are needed to work either a morning shift from 11:30 – 3:30, an afternnon shift from 3:30 – 7:30pm or if you are really keen both shifts.

There are some perks like a free lunch etc etc and you get to stick around and enjoy the bands after your shift.

Last year we had a number of therapists and parents come out and help and they had a great time.

If you can help out this year please call the ASBC office at 604-434-0880

    Thanks, Michael

There are a couple of other parents whose contributions to the success of the Autism Treatment conference that I forgot to recognize in my previous post. Avery Raskin and Nancy Walton, both are long time "veterans" whose contributions to the movement have been and continue to be very significant. Thankyou both! And thankyou to everyone else who are unamed here but work tirelessly in the service of others.

I need your help…I'm trying to find a ride for someone who is coming to the Mar. 12th conference. This person lives within walking distance to Lougheed Mall.

Is there anyone going by that way who would be willing to give someone a lift?

If so please email me at: jean.lewis@telus.net

    Thanks,
    Jean

This is a reminder to parents and professionals attending the FEAT, ASAT, ASBC conference on Mar. 12th. of the long standing policy regarding advertising/promotions/solicitation in place for our conferences/seminars/workshops.

PARENTS: We will have a table available for parents only to advertise for therapists to work on their home-based Lovaas-style A.B.A. teams and therapists who are looking to join Lovaas-style A.B.A. teams. Please note: this is for parents doing Lovaas-style A.B.A. only.

PROFESSIONALS OR AGENCIES: Absolutely NO advertising/solicitation is permitted.

    Thankyou for your consideration,
    Jean
