The Education lawsuit starts tomorrow, Monday, April 3rd.

As a review; This case is about schools blocking children in A.B.A. treatment programs equal access to education by barring their properly trained A.B.A.therapists and Behavioural Consultants from the schools. In this particular case, it's about one little boy, however, this is a systemic problem in the majority of school districts in B.C.

The case is between an Abbotsford family and the School District of Abbotsford and the B.C. Ministry of Education. It will be in the Supreme Court of B.C. Courthouse at 800 Smithe St. in Vancouver. Madam Justice Koenigsberg will hear the case. The courtroom will be posted on the bulletin boards in the main lobby (street level).

    Court times are 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (with a short morning break) and 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. (again with one break.)

This is open to the public. Any interested parent or supporter is welcome to come.

If you do come by, enter the court room quietly and please turn off all cell phones and pagers.

    See you there!

I would like to thank all the parents, therapists, friends and supporters who attended the Peter Stoffer Press Conference yesterday.

We had a great turn-out, over 100 people. Supporters made it loud and clear, "Medicare for Autism Now!"

The speakers included: Peter Stoffer, Peter Julian, Dawn Black, Glen Davies, Roxanne Black and Sabrina Freeman. The common theme in all their remarks was; the inclusion of IBI/ABA into Medicare is a non-partisan issue. All the political parties need to work together in order to get this legislation passed. As parents of children with autism, and, as voters, we expect nothing less.

There were a variety of media represented, CKNW Radio News, CBC Radio, Channel M and Fairchild TV. The Burnaby NOW and The New Westminster Record were also going to run stories this weekend.

Peter Stoffer emphasized how parents and supporters across Canada need to contact their local MPs to demand that the new Conservative Government include autism treatment funding into their budget…..so….pick up the phone and make the call!

Once again, thanks to all who came out to make this event a success!

To Danielle Cross and anyone else wondering what might be required of them if they attend the Peter Stoffer Press Conference on March 24th:

THE ONLY THING THAT IS REQUIRED IS FOR YOU TO COME OUT!

Don't worry – none of us are as informed as we should be – how can we be? Most of us have among other things, children with autism to look after.

Come out, listen to the speakers, talk to other parents, ask questions if you want….just show up!

Attention all F.E.A.T. members and supporters:

We have great news to report!

Peter Stoffer, NDP MP from Nova Scotia, who tabled Bill C-459, which was a private member's bill to, "ammend the Canada Health Act to include IBI/ABA into Medicare" is coming to Vancouver next Friday, March 24th.

He is coming for the sole purpose of holding a press conference to announce his intention to re-introduce his Bill in the House of Commons when parliament reconvenes in April!

THIS IS A HUGE STEP FORWARD FOR OUR CAUSE!

Mr. Stoffer has asked us to invite as many ABA parents and supporters as possible to attend his press conference. There will be a number of speakers, including Peter Stoffer, Peter Julian, Dr. Glen Davies, Dr. Sabrina Freeman and others. Needless to say, we ALL need to be there!

    Friday, March 24th @ 2:00 p.m.
Bonsor Recreation Complex in the South Burnaby Metro. Room,
    6550 Bonsor Ave.
    Burnaby, B.C.

The Bonsor Recreation Complex is close to Metrotown, so there is plenty of parking.

Our movement rarely receives "gifts" from politicians, so let's not take this one for granted by being apathetic, or relying on "other parents" to turn up. We (parents, grand-parents, therapists, friends, disillusioned Canadians) ALL NEED TO SHOW UP TO SUPPORT THIS!

Roxanne Black has undertaken the huge job of co-ordinating volunteers. She needs your help! Contact her .a.p. at bradrox@shaw.ca to see how you can help make this event a success!

    Contact jean.lewis@telus.net for more information.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
    – Margaret Mead

See you all on the 24th.
    Jean
