Dear Nancy,

It is wonderful for your son to start talking! And you are absolutely right, that it does not really matter, what was the main reason for his to start talking. I also witnessed many wonderful results with regards of the Lovaas treatment as well as Greenspan.
Speaking of Lovaas, his approach was very advanced at one point of time and he also had a hard time to move his ideas around.
Please, understand me, I am not in any way discarding wonderful skills and knowledge earned over the years. I am only suggesting that it could be another way, which is not based on the child's age and Autism severity level. Also speaking of the data collected over the years – the Option Institute and their Son-Rise program cured hundreds, if not thousands of children and adults with different deficiencies. The Son-Rise is mainly concentrates on Autism treatment.
Also based on one of your remarks, that I joined a wrong discussion group, I checked the site again and found that you are absolutely right. So, please, accept my apologies for interfering with the discussion.

I posted a message about Son-Rise program as not an argument to ABA or any other wonderful therapies, but as an opportunity for other parents to know about other alternatives. We, like other parents, were searching for a cure for our son for at least 2 years. We already tried an ABA in multiple variations as well as a Greenspan approach with very insignificant results. With Son-Rise we found great results.

As of "Son-Rise has no scientific evidence backing it":
1. I do not care about scientific evidences if it helps;
2. The Son-Rise program actually cured thousands of children and adults with "not-curable deficiencies". Check the http://www.son-rise.org/ for details and references;
3. I was a Medical Doctor and believed it or not a lot of "true" medical solutions, which were supported by scientific evidences were "true" yesterdays and no longer a "true" today. You can ask any MD (as well as psychologist), how many times the view about disease as well as treatments have changed during the length of their medical practice. So, going further: what is considered to be a “true” today, might not be a “true” tomorrow. NOTE: the “scientific evidences backing” these “true” might not be considered as a “scientific” tomorrow. It is just a little “philosophical” opinion.
4. The "root" of the Autism is not discovered yet or agreed upon yet. There are theories only. How we can talk about “scientific therapeutic solutions” if the source of the disease is un-known?

We discovered a wonderful approach from the Option Institute. They have a Son-Rise program, which is under the Option umbrella. The Son-Rise program is a child-centric and parent-driven. The main idea of this program is loving and accepting attitude, where we are joining (where possible) the child's behavior and building a new one, when the contact is established. As a result of this approach our non-talking son spoke over 50 words and 2-words sentences over the period of less then 2 months. We achieved 100% contact and his violent behaviors almost disappeared. Need more details, call Uri at 416-888-6528 or write to ikroukov@sprint.ca.
