Not sure if this info was posted or not but we went to see the movie called DEAR JOHN, surprisingly we thought we were going to be watching only a romance movie but yet to discover Autism was a big theme in the movie.
The movie made me think how each and every one of us has a purpose in each others lives.DAR

Darlene JosephMemberWe are looking for suggestions from other parents whom have similar challenges regarding their child's self-stim behaviours. Our consultant from MAPCL Christine Peterson and our 3 1/2 year old son's support worker at school, suggest many things and we are all trying things through trial and error to help decrease his strong attachment to objects such as clothing that he just constantly looks for and wags them in front of his face in (visual tracking). Consultant says to replace it, but with what? We've tried many things, and we are constantly trying many new plans. I read a book that Temple Grandin wrote and she says that she was never allowed to engage in any stimming behaviours. For now we try this, but it's tiring having to constantly be on him also to stop the behaviour.
Our question:
Does anyone know if ABA therapy, that he gets, should diminish the need to engage in those stimming behaviours. Because it does not seem to be diminishing. Any suggestions I'd appreciate it, you can email me at darjo74@hotmail.comDarlene JosephMemberTHERAPIST NEEDED FOR SOUTH SURREY AREA (CLOVERDALE)

Darlene JosephMemberWe are parents of 3 year old twin boys. One twin was recently diagnosed as autistic by a pediatrician. We are currently waiting for his speech therapist to write up a letter, along waiting for an assessment from a private psychologist. He has also been on the wait list for FHAN. Any one have any suggestions about where and how can we search for behavioural consultants. Should we search for a Consultant now or until we obtain funding for his treatment? And how long does it take to even find a good consultant? Is is difficult to find one here in BC or the United States?
Searching for answers.
Overwhelmed,We would greatly appreciate your suggestions,
Thank you,
Andrew and Darlene -
