Hi. Has anyone taken their child for a serum lead screening? Is this helpful?
Also, can anyone recommend a kind and patient pediatric in Burnaby/Vancouver? As we all understand, our children are not the most adorable kids when they are in the clinic.
First of all, thank you for helping my kid & my family. Email: hana.takuya@yahoo.com
Joanna NgMemberI was involved in this area of Consultants, BIs/ABA tutors for several months now. Needless to say, life is tiring enough with a kid with special needs. What's more if you also need to handle a group of people…working with your kid.
What I would especially like to share here is the consultant/consulting agency that we work with. Maybe some of us still have vivid memories when we first met them.
I have wasted some time because we were not on the right track, so I hope my sharing will help some others not to waste any of theirs.
Having the 1st consultation is very important. If it's free of charge, great. If not, first try out those who does not charge you. Why do we need to pay for them to advertise/sell their services? Even the banks don't.
Then, make sure you have your kid around when the consultant is there. There is a huge difference between my 1st and current consultant.
The 1st one came to blah-blah-blah about her education background, experience and fees schedule. She did not even bother to look at my toddler, a preschooler.
My current consultant, she played with him, and was able to engage him in hide-and-seek, and make him call her name. He hardly does. So, which would you choose?
And after we've made our choice, when you have questions, ask. Before that, I wrote a family goal for my child, his pluses and minuses. I got involved a lot, and I knew I had to.
I remember when I started to question something, my previous consultant said, "If you chose me, you should trust me."
Here's the dilemma. We should trust the people we chose, but we also need to trust ourself because we know our child best. And every child is different.
Joanna NgMemberMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all parents who have been working hard, 24/7 with all their love and energy to their kids.
Joanna NgMemberDear Stephanie (Spence),
My son took all his 3 shots at 1 1/2 years old. Since that evening, he refused to nurse until 2 weeks later. He's so non-verbal until 2.5 years old that I sometimes think he cannot speak at all. Although there is no evidence that vaccinations could cause autism, I hated myself for causing my boy so much agony and shock. He was petrified by the 3 shots [I fought with his dad that we should separate the shots instead of giving him all 3 in a row].
Of course, I lost the battle. Not only that, I also lost my son – he's now so afraid of clinics that it is hell for us each time we need to bring him to any clinics or hospital. We paid our price.
Good luck to you.Joanna NgMemberWe are looking for ABA interventionist/tutor to join our freshly starting team. Location is in Metrotown area.
