This post is particularly cogent for the parent of a recently diagnosed child. My hope is that it will introduce you to a different perspective.

Sabrina FreemanParticipantThere's much talk about the relative merits of being in a gov't program vs. a program where the parents spend the money. In B.C., this issue is very cogent. Here's my take on the issue for parents attempting to get the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to autism treatment. Enjoy! http://tinyurl.com/3k5kgml
Sabrina FreemanParticipantAutism and the Role of Music. If you've ever wondered how, or why, to incorporate music into an ABA program, hopefully this will give you valuable information. As you know, we had to figure this out on our own. For any parents with musical children, this post should hopefully give you some food for thought. Enjoy! http://tinyurl.com/4yla58q
Sabrina FreemanParticipantHi All,
A parent advocate recommended this website to me: Autism after 16. It is actually an honest website that doesn't candy-coat the future; however, it also gives an insight into what's happening in NY State which is a state that is well known for its forward looking attitude to autism (remember the famous NY report on the state of the Science for autism treatment). I blog about it briefly and link it for you. http://tinyurl.com/4yla58q
Sabrina FreemanParticipantWe keep hearing about biological advances in autism. Is the latest from the M.I.N.D. institute a game changer? http://tinyurl.com/3fbayjg

Some of you may know about the National Standards Report Panel which decided to publish their evaluations of various treatments for autism in 2009. I've decided to evaluate their findings because some are very misleading. This is the first in a series:

Sabrina FreemanParticipantHi All,
I had the privilege of interviewing the author of "Staging a Miracle: A Practical Parent's Guide to Surviving an Autism Diagnosis" There is some good advice that he gives in terms of running an ABA program and dealing with the school district among other topics. Enjoy! http://tinyurl.com/4xobhyq

The Perverse Incentive to Stay Unemployed. If you want a peek into the future of what happens when your child with autism grows up to be a very capable adult, here's your window (unless we change it):
