    EYE DOCTOR PEDIATRICIAN NEEDED

We are needing to see a pediatric opthemologist, for our 5 year old son, who needs follow-up after a trauma. Anyone had any great experience & can recommend one?

We are willing to visit any recommended Dr. in the Lower Mainland, experienced with Autistic children. I don't know what's worse.. the actual injury.. or the visit to see the doctor…

P.S. Special thanks to Todd, our paramedic!! Our Autism connection was a comforting distraction to my poor nerves in the ambulance. Thank you!

I like the laminator idea. Can anyone recommend one? And what makes a good one? I heard Costco sells one.

Sorry for the double post. I thought my computer was being little sleepy.

What a great thread. (Quite a refreshing change, we can all agree)

    MY TIPS #1:
    http://www.speakingofspeech.com
By far my best tip…I get so excited about this one. I have found a GREAT professional SLP (Speech & Language) PECS website.

Here, teachers & SLP's share tips and "hundreds" of PEC pages & games they have created on their own. Also, chat boards, communication boards, Dr. Suess games, shopping, bingo, seasonal games, guess who.. (Hey, who couldn't use some extra time by borrowing someone elses creativity?) Most of the PEC (picture symbols) are created using BoardMaker, however they can be printed in whole, directly from the website. You DON'T need BoardMaker to print the pages. (You might need a program like Acrobat for printing the PDF files) Click on "MATERIALS EXCHANGE" on the homepage. This should help some newbies out. I have printed out several pages & activities. I truly recommend taking 30 min. when you're in your pj's (like Michelle!) and checking it out!

    MY TIPS #2:
    http://www.enchantedlearning.com
Has great school & preschool printouts. Dot-to-dots, dotted Alphabets, tracing, colouring, nursery rhymes, school-aged worksheets.

    MY TIPS #3:
    http://www.dotolearn.com
Free PEC pages for printing. I find this one not as helpful though. My personal opinion.

    MY TIPS #4:
    http://www.superduperinc.com
SLP materials (flash cards, games, cd's…) Free shipping. If you request, they will send you a free "IKEA size" catalogue. Did I mention free shipping? (We like free)

    MY TIPS #5:
    http://www.learningplanet.com
More pre-school to school aged worksheets & games

For those of us who use them, computers are a wonderful tool, that can make life a lot easier. I hope you have time to explore these links.

    Enjoy!

ps. thanks for the LD tip Dave, I didn't know they were free. I'm working on a few helpers for "in the supermarket" right now.

Background checks need to be done in the city you live in.

BackCheck will provide a full police criminal record check in a few days, not a few weeks as the RCMP office will. Same exact service, same exact report. Those 2 weeks waitng can be better spent with therapy for the child.

Thanks. I just wanted to clear that up, if there was any confusion. I didn't want anyone driving to Abbotsford and be sent away. Although it is worth the drive for cheaper gas!! :)

Guy, (and all those interested in background checks for therapists etc.)

My husband is the president of "BackCheck" (a background checking company in Langley, BC) I asked him how much a background check would be and he said. "If you go to the local RCMP it's about $49 per check." It takes he said about 2 weeks to get the results. His company "BackCheck" charges the same $49 and the report can be done immediately. The forms could probably be faxed to you so you don't need to drag your children to the police office.

He also said he doesn't mind giving
A DISCOUNT FOR THOSE INQUIRIES RELATED TO AUTISM.

I am also a parent of a child with Autism and just got the funding, so I need the same service.

    BackCheck (Dave Dinesen President)
    (604)506-4663 or tollfree 1-877-308-4663
    Ask for Autism related discount!

Please, I hope nobody is offended for my promoting my husband's business. It is related here and I'm just trying to save us Autism parents a few bucks, which I hope you can understand.
