The Mid-Island ASBC Community Groups February meeting has been cancelled.
Members who live in School District 69 (Qualicum) are instead encouraged to attend a meeting the same evening hosted by SD69.
Special Education Services in the district will be undergoing an External Review by Dr. Richard Zigler who is the Director of Instruction for School District 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap). Parents are invited to meet with Dr. Zigler to discuss the strengths and challenges of the districts special education programs at:

NanaimoTopic: ABA in the Classroom
In this session, parents and aides will share experiences and materials to successfully transition from home to school (including preschool) for children of varying ages and abilities. Topics will include:
* Promoting a positive, productive, child-centered home / school relationship
* How to marry home programs and school expectations in as smooth a way as possible.
* The importance of an IEP that considers all aspects of the childs development (language, academic, social, maladaptive behaviours, self-help skills)
Participants are asked to bring along samples of IEPs and materials that you have used to help your child be successful in the classroom. We plan to have a whole group presentation and discussion, a time to share materials, and a time for parents and aides to meet in their own groups to share ideas.
This will be an open meeting. All are welcome.
