MemberRegistration for Upcoming FEAT workshops:
FEAT of BC is pleased to announce that registration is now available for two upcoming workshops in the new year.
Basic Workshop: An introduction and review of ABA. This workshop will introduce you to the scientifically based field of ABA. Participants will learn terminology as well as recieve hands on practice implementing basic principles and strategies. Correct implementation of the discrete trial, basic prompting, reinforcement and data collection will be some of the topics discussed.
This workshop is open to all who have an interest in ABA and Autism. Registration forms can be found at https://featbc.org/downloads/abtw.pdf
The number of partipants for this workshop has been expanded to meet demand. This workshop often fills quickly and those wishing to attend are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.Intermediate Workshop: An expansion of concepts and strategies intended for those with experience working with children with autism within an ABA home or school based program. Participants MUST have at least 3 months experience and have attended a FEAT of BC basic workshop or a basic workshop by their FEAT of BC recognized consultant. Participants are encouraged to attend the FEAT of BC basic workshop to ensure familiarity with the terms and terminology that will be used in this workshop. This workshop will not focus on reviewing basic terminology.
This is a small seminar based workshop, allowing extensive one-to-one with the instructors. The number of participants is limited. This workshop fills quickly and we encourage participants to register early to avoid disappointment. Registration forms can be found at https://featbc.org/downloads/ibtw.pdf
Registration for the upcoming senior workshop will be posted shortly. Please note that attending the basic and intermediate workshops is highly recommended for those who wish to attend the senior workshop.

How are you doing? It's C. I'm not sure if you still remember me but I was there a couple of months ago doing research on Autism. I just finished my Special Education Assistant course. I was wondering if you happen to have a list of private school for special needs kids of if you know of any schools who are hiring SEAs right now, both public and private. Or if there are any families who are in need of SEAs.Deleted User
MemberI have had ANCA do a presentation a few years ago to an ASBC community group. They believe that the autistic individual doesn't need to be treated…..
Thank you for answering, Laurie. It is best to have some background ideas when attending a new group for the first time. I'm going to the ANCA conference at Robson Sq because simple ABA is not likely to help me much; there is no funding for pensioners to take it that I know of, for a start, and it may not be the most effective method for me. Many kids do well with ABA and I'm still a kid; I'll have to try a session adjusted for age, one day, to see how it goes and where it fits in with other therapies.
I didn't see the other replies that Elna got so I don't have any real reason not to attend…

MemberI looked quickly at the site and flyer for the video conference. Temple has a PhD and works in animal husbandry. I don't believe that instructing or consulting in Autism Treatment is her main income. She has recovered from autism herself and may have useful hints for all of us, she has written books about it; though she 'Lives in a world of pictures,' which is 'Some of us; but not all of us.'
I believe that I shall go, part of my world is pictures. I seem to remember that there is much more about her at the Autism Research Institute: perhaps in the link to the group in Oregon ? Yep <http://www.autism.org/> Just off to W Van library now but did check the link. It does seem worth my while to go to see what part of her skills are transferrable — but don't let me persuade you without thinking it over.

MemberASBC Needs Your Help: We Want Your Childs Picture in the Vancouver Sun!
We are looking for a child to pose for this years Christmas picture for the Vancouver Sun Xmas Stocking Fund. The picture can be taken in a Christmas setting out in your community, or at your home, and arranged at your convenience. A brief telephone interview with the parents is also requested.
The Vancouver Sun heavily supports the Summer Reimbursement Program, and without their generous support we would not be able to run this program.
If you are interested in having your childs picture taken please email tleger@autismbc.ca or call 604-434-0880.
Thanks !
