    Hello everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to handle government inquiries about one's ABA program (ie: when a social worker or other asks "are you doing ABA"). I'm wondering what other people have found to be effective as well as detrimental.

This may not be something people feel comfortable writing on a web page so if anyone has any good advice as to how to deal with these inquiries, please do not hesitate to email me (Ginnyb827@aol.com) and then I will send my phone number to you.

    Thanks

    Hi Anna…

For flash cards, try Collins Educational Supplies. I think on Quebec St, off Marine Drive near Knight St bridge in South Vancouver/Burnaby. We haven't been there for while, so I'm not sure if they are still there. Our lead therapist makes great cards. She is thinking of putting some out at a table at the next FEAT workshop, so that may be an option for you as well.

For hair cuts, I do both my boys myself. For several *years* it was a nightmare for my older son, but he is 'somewhat' OK with it now. For the younger one, its still a nightmare, so I do it when he is asleep…

    Hi Folks

I'm making available some software that I have built to help manage the ABA programs for our two sons. You can find out more about this at http://home.istar.ca/~gumnut/homeaba.html, including the reasons why I can't give it away for free, much as I would like to!

I'm hoping to have a little table at the FEAT workshop in Sept at SFU where I will be able to offer you better prices than on my website (no delivery required!).

For FEAT BC members, the pricing is $10 for a time limited trial CD and $40 for a registered copy, plus PST. An upgrade from the trial to a registered copy is $35 plus PST. (All Canadian dollars). If you just can't wait until the workshop, you can download a trial copy at no charge or send me an email and we will work something out!

    Just trying to help!

    Peggy:
Re a good book for to teach drawing ideas, check out London Drugs. They have a lot of good educational material for our kids, often pretty reasonably priced. Learning Horizons is the company that puts out a lot of these products. For drawing, try "Draw and Talk"- $3.25 canadian- It's supposedly for Pre-K to K, but I would have been happpy to have this book in 5th grade to improve my drawing
    Cheers!!

Just wanted to thank the four families who had the courage and strength to fight for our cause and WIN!!!! Congratulations!

Thought Avery would also be interested to know that once when I went through the sites that promoted Dolphin Therapy, I realized that what they were doing was actually ABA style behaviour modification. They make the child do drills and as a reward, or reinforcement, take them out to swim with the dolphins!

So, even DOLPHIN THERAPY confirms that ABA is the effective method of treatment!!!

    Hello all.

Very well put Barbara and Dave. I too wrote a letter and I hope others will too. Mine was nowhere near as comprehensive as yours. The more accurate information we can get out there the better.

I can't figure out why people continue to have these ridiculous outdated opinions when if they just opened their eyes they could see the reality?!?!? I mean what is cruel about teaching your child to experience the world and to learn from those experiences?

Its frustrating. But at least I can sleep at night (as I think David Chan put it). My daughter is 31/2 and has only been in her program for 2 months and we can already see the differences. You can't tell me that what we are doing is wrong. I could never go back to the days when I felt sad and lost as to how to help my daughter.

I look forward to reading responses in the Sun or elsewhere.

    Hi Dave

We have a great clock, the Owl Clock. A large face showing an analog clock. When you press one of its feet, the analog clock moves forward by 5 minutes. When you press the other foot, the eyes open showing the digital clock, matching the analog. I realize that its not exactly what you are asking for, but it worked for us!

I can check with my wife where she got it if you like. I think it was Discovery Toys. Sherry: if you read this email, perhaps you can let Dave know!

    Hi Folks

Just so you know, after about three years of use and development, I am in the process of publishing our Home ABA software for general use.

If you want to have a look at the user manual, check out http://home.istar.ca/~gumnut/homeaba.html . The other links on this page are not functioning yet, (will be in a week or two) but if you want to get a trial CD, let me know.

As a special offer for FEAT BC folks, $10 will get you a 60 day trial CD. A registered copy is $50. Plus PST of course, but no GST!

Contact me at gumnut@istar.ca if you are interested.
