    Dear Anonymous:

You have asked for a great deal of candid
information without giving so much as a first name
or an appropriate email address. I am familiar
with Telus's customer ID email addresses and I am
aware that you have another one which is a little
less cryptic. Why are you hiding from us so
    efficiently?

Fine, I will assume you have your reasons for
playing at secrets, and I will assume that it is
not because you are a government shill / Laurel
Group / CBI / Gateway employee trying to elicit
email to be used for threats. I will not, however,
send you email — I will simply answer you here:
Most of the members of this group have no time,
respect, or certainly money for The Laurel Group
et al because they are not bonafide Lovaas-ABA
consultants. They are part of the BC Autism
Industry, they are fed with your tax dollars by a
government whose goal is to see that your child
receives no effective treatment. Whether one does
the government/social worker route or the private
one, one is a thousand times better off on a
10-month waiting list for a real Lovaas consultant.

I am in the process of trying to hire people to work with my son but no luck so far. I was planning on working with a consultant from the Laurel Group as they were recommended to me by the doctor who diagnosed my son. We are doing it privately (not the government/social worker route). I have just started reading this discussion group's posts for the last week, and from what I gather there is no support for any B.C.-based consultant groups but I'm not exactly sure why. If anyone has any information that could help please let me know( e-mail a5a18301@telus.net). I want the best program for my son.

We use CEE and are very happy. But, I know of a family that has been on a waitlist for CEE for 5 months now. I believe they are fully booked. (although, they should have returned your calls by now). Clearly there is a consultant shortage.

Earlier this week, Shannon Rice asked about consultants in BC who have been courting her. She asked the question "Has BC hired some qualified consultants?" I was interested in what the answer to this question would be but saw no reply. Perhaps people replied directly to Shannon, but I would be interested in hearing what people had to say. Anyone have any comments or information on this?

I am trying to reach the Center for Early Education in San Diego. This is the group of consultants that spoke at the SFU conference in October. To date I have not received any contact. Is anyone aware of a new phone number or address for them? Or is anyone currently using the Center for Early Education? We are wanting to start an at home program for our daughter. We were very impressed with them and would like to pursue using them for our daughter.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding training new members to join an existing team. I am wondering what sort of training process others have found effective ie: how much time spent shadowing, how to know when a new therapist is ready to jump in, what other steps have helped.

We do not have a Sr. therapist (I have that role). We have had a sr. therapist come and assist us in improving therapy but as she is not part of our team it is difficult to arrange for her to come regularly.

    thanks
    michelle

Tonight I was reading the Georgia Straight's Best of Vancouver 2000 Readers Poll and came across this item:

"THE BEST REASON TO GIVE THE FINGER TO THE PROVINCIAL NDP:

The idiotic decision by the NDP to appeal the ruling of the BC Supreme Court regarding the province's responsibility to provide ongoing and immediate aid to autistic children guarantees a lengthy delay that will harm children and enrich many lawyers. Is there any difference between this government and child abusers?"

Pick up your copy of the Geogia Straight on newsstands now.

    All the best,

    DeeDee

We are contemplating a move to Alberta because supposedly Loovaas is paid for at the pre-school level. Has anyone heard the process to apply for these funded programs in Alberta. We are worried that we will move there, only to find out we are put on a waiting list for a program.
Also, has anyone heard of any good consultants that are currently accepting newly diagnosed kids. We phoned a couple of supposedly good consultants, but after 5 phone calls in 3 weeks, no one has called us back. Any information would be aprreciated. Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
I am considering moving to San Jose (California) area, hoping that our son's ABA will get funded by either the State government or the school district. (I do not hold much hope for BC government.) Does anyone know how it is funded in that area? (I'm assuming that it is funded; but I'm prepared for a complicated process.)
    Thanks a lot.
