WANTED BEHAVIOURAL INTERVENTIONISTS
NEW WESTMINSTER QUEENS PARKWe are looking for one or two therapists to join our energetic team and work with our son, William. He is a very funny and sociable little boy who is bright, verbal, and learns very fast. He is almost five years old and has high functioning autism (Aspergers). He is a very happy child who loves imaginative play.
Our consultant, Michele Shilvock, is local and been working with us since our son was diagnosed in August 2007. We have a strong therapy team and have seen tremendous gains! Michele and her intern, Gabrielle Stigant, will provide ongoing supervision and training, so this would be a great opportunity for applicants who welcome frequent overlaps and opportunities to further develop their skills. The program is in-home behavioral therapy and is based on the Lovaas method of positive reinforcement.
Applicants with early child education or ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis) experience are preferred but we WILL also consider well motivated and inexperienced applicants as well. Experience in facilitated peer play (ABA) is a definite asset. Training is provided.
We are looking for applicants who are able to work 2-3 shifts per week. The shifts are about 3 hours long.
Also, you must be dependable and willing to commit to one year at least and be able to attend Biweekly Team Meetings on Tuesdays 8:30 to 9:30 am.
Wage will be based upon skill level and experience.
If you are responsible, energetic, creative, and motivated, we would like to hear from you.
For more information, please call: (604) 527-8105 or e-mail Heather Burke at: hburke@telus.net

Heather BurkeMemberHELP: NO CHOICE IN DECIDING SUPPORT PERSON (SUPPORTED CHILDCARE) AT PRESCHOOL
Our preschool has just hired someone without ABA training rather than the candidate we chose, that already knows my child and works with him at home doing ABA.
We would like to resolve this issue and find out what the SCD policies are. Also, if anyone has had any experiences like mind and found a way to convince their preschool to go with their choice.
I am very dismayed at this situation – it is clear what is in my son's best interest. However, the preschool insists on choosing someone different.
