Anyone wanna do a fundraising dance/soiree/party for FEAT of BC? I play bass for a real nice country duo that's willing to play for free – Steve Elliot & Lucie Walker – check it out at http://www.rockincountryblues.com
We could arrange a whole evening's worth of country/folk music, including some other acts if need be – you just need to organize it and staff with volunteers.
Let me know if there's any interest!

David BridgesMemberRe: Dogs
I have a suggestion, although this type of dog is LARGE!!!!.
I have a Bernese Mountain Dog. Looks a little like a St. Bernard, but not as big (males avg. 110 lbs. at adulthood). INCREDIBLY patient, kind, loving, and big enough to handle my rambunctious 7 year old boy. Shedding IS a problem.
A good guard dog, not an attack dog. Originally bred as a cow and sheep herder, he stays with you and your family, almost 'watching guard' over the little ones.
LOVES to rough-house and instinctively interestd in children (loves all kids, but a little wary of strange adults). Pleasing his master is top priority.
'Sam' and my boy are very close.
They do have hip and other joint problems, so find a really good breeder AND do not fail to get pet insurance.
Good luck and go for it! I'm sure you can't go wrong so long as you are careful the puppy has a steady, confident disposition, and is of medium or large stature.
A pup from a large brood is also preferable, since they are more used to chaos and disorder. And apparently the farther down the birth-order, the better (just more experience with 'the pack', and not as likely to want to be the centre of attention).
Hope this was of some assistance.

David BridgesMemberIn response to Karen:
Yes, my 7 year-old has a toilet-stuffing fetish, that waxes and wanes with time.
I do have locks on the bathroom doors, and have found that this is the most effective prevention for that behaviour.
Other than this, just make sure he's not getting a kick out of the reactions his behaviour causes (eg., keep a cool head). And if there's some mildly aversive thing you can do, such as washing his hands with cold water when you catch him playing in the loo, I'd try it.
The little sneak!! My guy is a sneaky-puss, too. Sometimes it's hard not to laugh at the little (and big) disasters he's planned and executed. I think dude would make a good Special Ops commando.

David BridgesMemberHey! Two points only, in response to the msgs. about anthrax and tax cuts.
First, please let's stop bringing the recent terrorist attacks into the debate about Autism treament. Hyperbole of this kind will only alienate us from mainstream readers, the public; those who we want on our side, right?
Second, regarding the tax cuts. We as a group, are almost certainly not unanimous on the issue of tax cuts and how they affect our kids' chance fo treatment.
I personally am taking a beating on taxes and am hoping that the money that is not now gobbled up by an inefficent and wasteful bureaucracy (and fat, LAZY social workers' salaries and pensions) can actually be used by families with autistic kids for the betterment of their children and themselves.
Having said this, I do agree that the current government HAS reneged on their promise to fund autism treatment, and we have every right to give 'em hell.
Just don't become a tool of the big unions' propaganda campaigns against cutbacks. They ARE needed, just not in this area. Never forget that big unions are and have been a major thorn in the side of the treatment of our kids as well, as any parent of school-age kids can attest to.
Sincerely,
Dave Bridges

David BridgesMemberHi Guys!
I, too. am thrilled. I shook Mr. Campbell's hand a few months ago at an AIDS fundraiser, looked him in the eyes and told him how strongly our group feels about this issue and how important it is to our children's and families' welfare. He told me flat out that they would fund Lovaas treatment and that they are on our side. That's pretty unequivocal, I'd say.
Nonetheless, let's stay vigilant as well as patient(a little), folks, because:
a)politicians are generally untrustworthy, and
b)the NDP has conducted scorched earth tactics with respect to fiscal policy; the mess the Liberals will have to clean up will be enormous, have no doubt about that.Just a thought.
Dave BridgesPS – the party is at my house the moment we get what we've been fighting for.
David BridgesMemberHi folks!
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post re:billing for phone consults, etc. I appreciate the time you took to respond. It made me realize how lucky I have been so far.
David BridgesMemberAttention CEE parents: Has anyone else out there been invoiced for phone and e-mail consultations OVER & ABOVE the usual workshop fees? I'm switching to a new consultant and alll of a sudden they have tagged on an extra 600-odd dollars (US) for such things over the past 8 months. I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know in this space or phone 913-3343. Or e-mail davidbridges@home.com
