Participant Kristin Grandner said this about module "Behavioral Treatment of Autistic Children: Ivar Lovaas" (1988) In Historical Perspective":

"I live and work in the UK, where CEUs are harder to come by, so this way of achieving them was excellent for me. The topics covered were very relevant to my career, and a very good refresher of the research that supports the work that I do on a daily basis. I hope you create more of these modules!"

Surrey, White Rock, Langley Families –

A few weeks ago I went to my friend’s daughter’s 6th birthday party (she is typically developing). The party was at Splitz in Cloverdale. The party was fantastic.

Splitz is a gymnastics center. It has trampolines, ropes, huge mats, etc. The party was completely organized by the staff at this center- you have to bring your own cake. It was very structured. The employees were very capable of managing 13, six year olds!!

I would highly recommend Splitz for birthday parties for children with the diagnosis of autism. Our kids as well as the peers will have a great time, and most importantly it is a very structured environment. Birthday parties are typically very difficult for children with autism to succeed at, due to the great lengths of unstructured down time that usually occur. At Splitz all of the activities were well organized, and fun! The kids were engaged the entire time.

I would recommend Splitz for birthday parties ages 5 to 9 or 10, for both boys and girls.

This Saturday, Sept. 9th, Splitz is having a free open house from 11 to 3. This could be a great opportunity for a family outing and to check the location out for future birthday parties.

Splitz is located at 17533 64th Avenue, Surrey, BC, 604-575-8425, http://www.splitzgymnastics.com

I put this information together for the parents that I work with. I know there are a lot of parents looking for tutors who could also use this information.

Hiring New Tutors For Your ABA Home Program-

Many families hire tutors who are students at local colleges and universities. These people often have flexible schedules and are interested in learning. An important characteristic of an effective tutor!

The following are links to employment centers at Lower Mainland universities and colleges. Some of the employment centers charge a small fee, others are free.

You will need to train more tutors than needed as there is a high level of attrition during new tutor training. If you receive more interest than you need please pass those names on to Families for Early Autism Treatment of B.C. (FEAT BC) – http://www.featbc.org
