    CAREER OPPORTUNITY:

    A fantastic opportunity is available to work at an ABA Teaching Home in South Surrey. Two youth with the diagnosis of autism are supported in a residential setting, by one to one ABA trained instructors, 24 hours per day.

    We are seeking applicants, both male and female, with 3 years experience implementing ABA curriculum to apply for the position of Program Supervisor (Team Leader). The Program Supervisor’s responsibilities include monitoring of each of the students’ data summaries and program curriculum, collaborating with Behaviour Consultants to make program decisions, providing training and evaluation to staff and completing other administrative duties.

    A valid driver’s license and clear criminal record check are required. Successful applicants will be expected to complete their Class 4 License within 3 months of employment.

    Supervision and training are provided from qualified, BCBA Behavioural Consultants – Dr. Richard Foxx, and Sharon Baxter.

    I am looking for a tutor/behavioural interventionist to work with a student with the diagnosis of apraxia. This is a communication disorder in which a person has trouble saying correctly and consistently what he or she wants to say.

    This student is 2 years and 9 months old. His home-base ABA program will be run during daytime and after school hours. The days and times of each session can be very flexible.

    The program focuses on teaching speaker behaviour and on play skills.

    We are looking for an experienced ABA tutor to work with our teenage son who is on the autism spectrum. He is verbal and social and likes to be on the go.

    We have a great home and school team under the direction of Behaviour Consultant, Sharon Baxter.

    Besides academic, communication and sports programs, there is a focus on self-help/ self- management skills.

    All training will be provided.

    New BI / Therapists are welcome to apply, however, preference will be given to candidates that have the skills and willingness to take over the senior / lead position in September 2010. As the Lead Tutor, some of the responsibilities will include running one to one sessions (2,3 hour shifts per week), preparing for meetings by providing reports to the consultant (approx. every 5 or 6 weeks), updating programs and preparing materials, as directed by consultant and overlapping other tutors.

    Applicants must be dependable and well organized and have a positive attitude, lots of energy and patience.

    We require a minimum 1 year commitment.

    Availability of shifts is flexible because our schedule is changing.

    Salary is negotiable based on your experience and performance.

    Employment Opportunity

    We are looking for an ABA tutor to work with our son who is 7 years old. He has just recently been diagnosed and is beginning ABA therapy this March. Our team is lead by Behaviour Consultant Sharon Baxter & Junior Consultant, Stephanie Price Evans.

    We require the Candidate to be 19 years of age with a clear criminal record check. Experience implementing Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) curricula would be a great asset, but is not essential as all training will be provided.

    What is important to us is a desire to work with children. This position would suit people with an interest in Behavioural Psychology, special education, or speech/language pathology.

    We will likely have 3, 2 hour afternoon shifts available, that can be done between 3 and 5pm. There will be no team meetings, instead an overlap twice per month will be provided by the Junior Consultant.

    We live in the Fleetwowod area.

    Saturday, January 23, 2009 10:30 am to 5:00 pm: The ABC's of ABA: More than just an introductory class, the basics are the most important aspect of any industry! Great for new parents, therapists, education assistants and anyone interested in strengthening their skills.

    This interactive workshop will include:

    • Overview of the characteristics of autism and the science behind why ABA is used for children with autism.
    • The main topic is the basics of behaviour analysis, antecedent, behaviour and consequence. Exploring the breadth of these three important areas including basic behaviour strategies
    • Overview of professionalism

    Sunday, January 24, 2009 1:00 to 4:30 pm: Play, Reinforcement, and Manding: The key to any successful program depends on creating a positive environment and using effective reinforcement. By knowing what motivates a child, therapists, parents and professionals can create opportunities for communication also known as “manding”.

    This hands-on workshop encompasses: the topics listed above as well as provides insight in to understanding learning moments in play and different types of play. Throughout the workshop participants will be building a “tool box” of creative ideas and stimuli to take with them!

    These workshops will give fundamental knowledge without going into specific teaching strategies (such as Discrete Trial or Fluency) allowing anyone working with any ABA consultant or group to benefit.

    About the Presenter: Amanda Raichelle brings a unique and broad perspective to the field. She understands the family perspective having grown up with a special needs sister and is currently fostering a young child with autism. During adolescence she began working in the general area of special needs and in 2000 Amanda was introduced to Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) for children with autism. Since then she has worked as a behavioural interventionist ( ABA therapist) with numerous families privately in their home, an aid in several preschools and a Student Education Assistant (SEA) in a middle school. Amanda has been involved at many different stages of therapy: from the initial diagnosis, to designing programs and training teams at any phase. Amanda continues to participate in personal development courses, Early Childhood Education and leadership courses utilizing this knowledge in constructing ABA programs and establishing quality teams.

He loves doing his work and loves to laugh. We have a very skilled team lead by Behaviour Consultant Sharon Baxter & Junior Consultant, Tyla Frewing.

    Tutor/Instructor Needed –

    We are in need of another tutor to join our well established team with a 15 year old boy. The focus of the program is functional academics, communication, leisure skills and life skills. The team is located in Langley.

    Experience is not necessary. For experienced tutors this position could lead to a senior tutor position.

    Tutoring hours run after school 3-6pm, and Saturdays.

    Access to a personal vehicle is preferred by not required.
