Amber ArmstrongParticipant
I hope I am putting his in the right spot..
I was in a car accident in September, I wasn't severely injured but I did some damage to my neck and shoulder and have to attend physio twice a week. Right around the time of the accident my son decided to stop sleeping through the night. I was advised by another parent to request emergency respite. I was approved for 8 weeks fairly easily (although it took a long time to get any money). The 8 weeks just ended and I am still in the same position, not getting regular sleep, still in pain and subsequently still in physio (UGH). This time around it was much more difficult getting anything out of CLBC. I had to get a Drs note (my receipts for physio weren't enough apparently), they wanted a detailed report of my injuries and recovery time etc. They weren't helpful or supportive at all and basically said they didn't care if I didn't sleep and I wouldn't be getting anything if it weren't for the physical injury. As long as my son isn't sleeping through the night I am going to NEED a break. I was told the waitlist for respite for me would be 1-5 years. Has anyone been successful in getting respite. I heard from another parent that harassing them is the only way to get anywhere.
Anyone have any advice? Oh and they cut my measily respite the second time around- even with the Drs note. And I wasn't even getting $200/month. I'm wondering if it will be easier when children's services go back to MCFD.
Amber ArmstrongParticipantBrenda Locke (liberal fleetwood-port kells) came door to door in my neighborhood. I had a pretty good chat with her. I believe she will stand by her promise and do her best to put autism in the CHA. I am not normally a liberal voter but as Tony said we must be single-issue voters regardless of the party.
Amber ArmstrongParticipantI was hoping someone here can help. I have a friend in Ontario who is trying to get her son assessed for ASD. She had an appt for assessment at her children's hospital but her son fell ill (and was hospitalized) and she is now told that the wait is 6-8 months. I am trying to find information about how to obtain a private assessment but I can't find anything online. If anyone knows the requirements in Ontario or a site that would be helpful I would appreciate it.

Amber ArmstrongParticipantI finally got everything together and went to CLBC to apply for funding, I should have an appt with the intake worker next week. My question is, I was advised since my sons bday is coming soon that I should request an 18 month contract. Have any of you had to do this? What if it takes a few months to get the program ready? Do you have to use the exact amount of money they give you each month or can you let some "roll over" into the next- and likely more expensive month? The woman at the desk pretty much told me that "they" like you to spend the money each month, this doesn't make sense to me, if the program isn't ready do they want me to waste money I KNOW I will NEED later??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Amber ArmstrongParticipantHas anyone had any issues with the form T2201- the disability certificate. I had my dr fill out the form and I mailed it in a few months ago. Today I got a form asking a dozen questions about my son's condition as well as his expected date of recovery. Does the government not know what Autism is??????
Anyone else go through this?

Amber ArmstrongParticipantI don't know if this belongs here or not so forgive me.
The CBC did a story on autism on Feb 11, at the end of the article they listed how much each province paid for ABA/IBI treatments, I thought the article was very interesting and sent it to everyone. I went to re-read it today and they have edited it out and it now no longer shows this information. I went into google cache to make sure I wasn't crazy and saw the original article. I just found this extremely odd and thought I would share. I may contact cbc and ask them.
Amber ArmstrongParticipantI just wanted to leave a quick note to thank everyone who recommended Dr. Delevie. He confirmed today what I have known for months. Its not not easy to hear. Today is a hard day and it better get easier.
Could use all the support I can get

Amber ArmstrongParticipantThanks to everyone for their responses and wisdom. I truly appreciate it. This is one of the toughest things I have ever had to deal with. Its really hard fighting for something you really really don't want (ASD diagnosis) while looking after my boys and giving what little I have left to my marriage- I have heard that a lot of marriages don't make it through this nightmare.
I am glad I found FEAT. Anyone who wants to chat or share their experience/advice please feel free to email me amber 81 @ gmail . com (no spaces )
Amber ArmstrongParticipantThanks, I will give ASBC a call. I have decided not to go through FHAN because the wait is too long. I am going through the ABLE clinics for the psychologist and speech pathologist portion and using our pediatrician.
Amber ArmstrongParticipantHello,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the board. My name is Amber, I have 2 boys Devin (4, NT) and Nicholas (2, I think ASD). We are going through the private diagnosis process right now. Has anyone else done this? I just can't bear to wait the 8 months for FHAN especially since I have felt hes ASD for several months already and finally people are listening.
Also anyone know of any support groups I can go to? I haven't been handling this very well and would love to talk with people who have been through it.
thanks in advance
